I must first admit I am a die hard Flyers fan and I appreciate the opportunity to be allowed to come here and ask your thoughts on a question that’s going on in my mind.   Its my belief that there is a situation that people are starting to talk about, however I think the issue has bigger implications.

It pertains to the Olympics in 2014 in Russia.

This is what is we know for certain so far…

Oveckin and Malkin have stated that they will play in the Olympics no matter what.

Even if the penalty is being suspended for a season.

Since the Olympics are in their home country it seems their choiuce and possible sacrifice is  justified and honorable.

If other Russian superstars join them, as it is now expected, then it is a guarantee that the Russians will win the gold IF no other nations put together dream teams as well.

Now if nothing changes the NHL will not play in the next Olympics

If the NHL dose not  allow players to play in the games here is the dilemma.

* and I believe this will become a problem regardless of who wins gold in Vancouver

IF Russian players take the risk to make a dream team, Canada will DEMAND one as well

Crosby is the major face of the NHL, he is the undisputed leader if your team, but he is also the face and leader of Canadian hockey.

Canada will want to put its best men to play agents the Russians and will expect Crosby to speak out and lead the way in this cause.

The NHL and the club owners, will expect Crosby to lead by example and obey their wishes.

Crosby will have to decide if he will either lead his countrymen in a blatant defiance and mutiny of the NHL or be considered Judas by his countrymen.

Either choice could have severe negative implications for him.

Also either choice could cause harsher and unfair punishment on him because of his reputation and roll.

I only hope the NHL simply changes their tune and allow all players to be a part of the Olympics.  (including round robin qualifiers)  but the owners do not make any $$$ of Olympic TV, or ticket sales, and their investments (players) are at risk of being hurt.

As a fan of the sport, Olympics, and as the Capitan of your team Id like to hear your thoughts on this situation that’s becoming more and more of a possibility since the Penguins have more to lose than most teams.
