So how much Pittsburgh's in PensBurgh?

There's no rule saying you can only follow your own home teams, especially not with today's technology.  I suspect this is particularly true of Pittsburgh's teams.  (Or maybe my feelings are colored by the fact that I am, as I state in my profile, a "Florida Cracker who moved to New York City for love.")  But some Pittsburgh Penguins fans actually have to be from, you know, Pittsburgh, right?  This isn't another "How did you become a Penguins fan?" thread, just a small and self-explanatory poll.

I chose other. I do have a connection with Pittsburgh (the Pens) but I don’t live there. Have visited for games though but never lived there.

Okay, besides the Pens...

It did take me a minute to figure out how to phrase that last option. Guess it would have been clearer had I included the phrase “besides team fandom” or something similar. I have to admit that since I got interested in the Pens, the name “Pittsburgh” registers a bit more with me and gets my attention more when I read the news and such. But I haven’t even visited—my first visit will be to watch a game. We’ll have to explore the city a bit, too.

I will have a family connection, though—my brother will be working with a farm in Western Pennsylvania next year. Naturally, my thoughts soon drifted to, “I bet if I time my visits right…”

Both my parents grew up in Pittsburgh so I have a lot of family up there, but I’ve never lived there, apart from extended vacations and visits.

Born and Bred in the Steel City. When I was young the Pirates were the best team in town. The Pens were growing with Mario and the Steelers had some guy named Bubby stepping in for Mark Malone. My parents are huge sports fans. I had no choice but to follow the local teams.

I voted no connection, However I do get to the city for at least one game a year…and I am friends with Frank Buonomo’s brother, we were a defensive tandem for a few years. However I was a fan since I was around 8 years old…over 20 years ago well before Frank joined the Organization.

My boyfriend got me into Pittsburgh sports, more specifically the Penguins. We live in NJ, but him and his family are originally from Pitt. I’ve visited there a handful of times and I definitely want to go to graduate school at University of Pitt.

I know people who have family who live near the 'burgh

"Polamalu’s lineage can be traced through several roots. Chuck Norris mated with an Amazon Queen, and on the other side, Tony Hawk mated with Mother Nature.

The two children of these spawned and fused in a tantric love session to create Troy Polamalu. The mother however died as he tore through the birth canal with a spin move."

I live exactly 1 hour and 13 minutes from Gate C without traffic on I-579.

I also stood on a PAT bus on Forbes Avenue when the Pens won the first cup in 1990. If it wasn’t for wanting to raise a family (the Pitt city schools suck) I would still live in Shadyside or Squirrel Hill. THE BEST CITY ON EARTH!!

Was born and raised in Pittsburgh. I moved to Upstate NY back in 98 and regret it every fall and winter when the Steelers and Penguins are playing. Sorry, but my summer’s are devoted to the NY Mets. haha…I know, I know, they suck, but I can’t, and I stress CAN’T, root for the Skankees. And besides, I promised my father in law!

I don’t get back to Pittsburgh as often as I’d like since my father passed away 6 yrs ago, but hopefully once my kids get a bit older and more willing to be in the car longer than an hour, we’ll start taking more trips back home.

Born and raised near pittsburgh

However the military has brought me southbound into maryland where I have to pay for center ice package to watch the pens.

Ive been a pens and pirates fan for about 18 years. Whole family is die hard penguins, steelers fans, althgouh none of them like the buccos except me.

Alittle trivia for anyone who wants to or knows the answer. I lived in a town where it is a hour and half to pittsburgh, hour and a half to cleveland, and a hour and a half to buffalo. Where did I live?

Straight from the NC

New Castle that is. Yeah, we used to have the biggest tin mill in the world (circa 1910). We also have Zambelli’s Fireworks making us the default fireworks capital of the world. We also have some of the most rabid Steelers / Pens fans ever. Moved to Brooklyn for a girl and now I’m stuck with NHL gamecenter over the interwb. Sigh . . . coming back in Januray for the Red Wings game though!

I miss going to student rush back in 2003 when you could get box seats for $20 cause the team was so terrible no one showed up. On second thought, no I don’t. I’ll pay $60 and have another Stanley Cup banner.

Moved to Brooklyn for a girl

So I’m not the only “moved to NYC for love” participant here! Awesome!
