The Stanley Cup is engraved

A new season begins tomorrow but who could pass up the chance for one more final and fitting tribute.  They have indeed etched the Penguins' names on the fabled Stanley Cup, just as Mike Lange said when time ran out on Game 7.

Pens won the Cup.  (Sorry had to get it out of my system one last time).

By the way, this is still etched by hand, correct?

Yes it is….That’s why it has slight imperfections (I noticed second L of “Bill Guerin” is off-line). But I think that makes it cooler that it’s not machine precision that makes it uniform and straight-lined.

Takes concentration, care and a lot of time to etch the cup, just like winning it!

Yeah I noticed that too. Along with the O’s in Brooks kinda going uphill like when I used to write on the blackboard in school.

But I agree – that keep the awesomeness of it all intact.

Cut and Paste

Well the Pens will just have to win again this season, keep it simple for the Engraver, throw some tracing paper over the 2008-9 team, make a few additions and subtractions and get a 4th Penguins team on the Cup! Go Pens Go!

Bill Kassling…I played roller hockey with his son at Neville Island. The guy’s got some great party pics with the cup and even a Crosby-esque sleeping with the cup picture. I knew that his dad was involved with the team. But, I never thought that a bunch of guys that I played roller hockey with would have a private cup party!

His name’s 3rd I’ve never heard of him but he must be some kind of baller to be only behind Lemieux and Burkle.

Amazing

I think this is the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen…..

Of course you needed to show this. Beautiful. I’m glad it’s hand-engraved; it connects this team to all the history in, on, and around that Cup.

"Darling, you say Brooks Orpik 'checked' that guy. He did not 'get under him and put him into the wall'."--Beloved to me, Winter 2007

It appears as though there are no typos, knicked this info from Hockey Trivia for kids…
There are more but these are my picks

1956-1960 Montreal won the cup 5 years in a row, each year Jacques Plante’s name is spelled differently
1971/72 Boston Bruins is misspelled as Bqstqn Bruins
1995/96 Avalanche won, Adam Deadmarsh was engraved as Deadmarch, and was later corrected, the first time a correction was made to a misspelled name on the Stanley Cup
