Penguins prospects fall to Ottawa 4-1 - but not without a (six) fight(s)
Hopefully some clips will surface overnight. Until then, special thanks to Peter from Silver Seven Sens for live updates throughout the broadcast.
Edit (11:38): Ottawa Sun has the recap (yes, 12 fighting majors handed out)
Once again the only Penguins goal came on a tip-in from a Robert Bortuzzo shot. Not sure who received credit for the goal, but Peter believes Dustin Jeffrey may have been involved on the play.
Apparently this class of prospects is trying to get it done with their fists rather than their sticks. In this game alone there were six fights, which combined with the video clips Seth provided on Empty Netters this morning makes for a rough total of 8-10 fights. Fight total aside, they have only scored two goals in two games.
But let's be honest here. You don't win the Cup with your best players still playing in the system. That doesn't necessarily mean the Penguins have exhausted the farm, it just means that if the prospect Pens start winning games 6-1 or 4-1 we'd all be wondering why those scorers aren't playing for the big club. Given the fact that they aren't exactly lighting up the board (although they are putting a ton of shots on net), maybe this is an opportunity for coaches to see where certain players need work. That's what this whole camp thing is all about.
In other words, no worries.
Besides, if you're stressing out over a prospect game you probably need therapy.

Speaking about brawlers, any chance the Pens are going to keep Goddard and Rupp on the big roster? I’m guessing Talbot moves up to second line duties, and Dupuis finds a home somewhere else in the NHL at some point this season, which would make room for both of them. Might need to keep a little bit of muscle to keep up with Toronto and the Flyers?

Well they have Godard locked up for the remainder of this year. Earlier in the offseason it was rumored that Dup and Godard were going to get sent off as part of a package deal, but nothing came of that. I can see him getting moved possibly during the trade deadline.
Toronto will pack a punch this season, literally. Philly obviously requires some attention as well. Rupp and Godard can hold that down. When Biz-nasty comes back from surgery maybe they’ll consider him over Godard for cap space. Can’t see it being a significant difference though in terms of cash.

Yeah, I remember all those rumors. But wasn’t that mostly just us fanning the rumor flames? I know it raised more than a few eyebrows when the Pens picked up Rupp when we already had Godard. I’m curious about the look and feel of the Pens next year with a little bit more grit throughout the roster from day one (it could have been Shero’s plan all along, and he could have never intended to trade Godard). I’m sure there’s going to be Pensburgh article closer to opening day when the roster is closer to being finalized that compares the sandpaper quotient between October 2008 and October 2009.
