Around SBN: Explaining Jeremy Lin's Early, Surprising Success

I was wondering whether or not we'd see Fleury on the bench tonight, but I guess Pechurski's tryout comes at just the right time to potentially make him tonight's back up to John Curry. Brian Metzer has more on Pittsburgh's 2008 fifth round pick.

Seems OK but hopefully we don’t get to find out tonight

Almost as bad as me saying Curry has NHL experience and I have faith in his abilities, as I posted on Nucks Misconduct’s preview.

You’d think that Thiessen would be the next in line, but I guess he’s just too far away. Pechurski’s playing in Washington state, right?

Yeah It would have been Thiessen if the Pens weren’t on the west coast…Thiessen also played last night, and being so far away, just too quick a turnaround.

Pechurski’s young and unknown but probably better than an Echl level local who may in around Vancouver.

According to the WHL site, Pechurski has played 6 games for the Tri-City Americans this season and has posted a record of 4-1-1, with 2 shutouts, a GAA of 1.84, and a .936 save percentage. Sounds pretty promising…

I don’t know, I thought Curry was kind of a minor league lifer?

Still, have some faith in this kid. We Russians are sneaky.

Currys working his way up….he’s always been fighting am uphill battle, he wasn’t even on scholarship at first in college….when he joined the Pens he beat out several draft picks to earn playin time.

Curry will never be a franchise NHL goalie, but he is a hard worker that usually gives sold performances when he gets in there
