Sorry all, I've been super busy these last few weeks and haven't had a chance to come around often. Anyway, I have some news on Alex Pechurskiy, I'll post it after the jump.
All right, so as I've mentioned before, teams in the WHL are only allowed to have 3 overage players (20 year olds) and 3 import players. The Tri-City Americans were in a bit of a pickle as they had 4 overage players and 3 imports with Pechurskiy taking up 1 overage and 1 import spot. The Americans ended up placing Pechurskiy on waivers at the overage deadline; he cleared waivers, becoming a free agent. There was some speculation that he'd sign with the WHL's Portland Winterhawks, as they had open overage and import spots with Nino Niedereitter playing for the Islanders. That fell through when the Isles sent Nino back to Portland and Pechurskiy fell off the map for about a month (much to my dismay). I just got word that he signed with the Mississippi RiverKings in the CHL about 2 days ago after they placed their backup goaltender on IR. I'll try to find some links to some of the articles I've read...
You can read about the overage deadline deals here.
Here's article about the potential Portland deal.
And here's some more information about the Portland deal.
And here's the article about him signing with the RiverKings.
I think that about covers it. If I've missed anything, let me know. There are some new articles that a Google search turned up that I haven't had a chance to look at yet; I'm going to go take a look at them now and if anything fun turns up, I'll post it here.
The News Tribune's Northwest News section ran this article about the RiverKings deal, although they have the RiverKings incorrectly listed as playing out of South Dakota. Not sure how that mistake gets past the editors, as the the name of the team is clearly the MISSISSIPPI RiverKings...
That's all I've got for now. Oh, besides a link to the RiverKings homepage for anyone that's interested. It's not the greatest, I'm having a little bit of trouble figuring out the newsfeed section of it as it doesn't seem to be current, but everything else is up to date...slightly disappointing, but I'll deal with it for his (hopefully) short stint with these guys. Nothing against them, I just want him in Pittsburgh/Wilkes-Barre/Wheeling as soon as his contract with Magnitogorsk is up because I'm selfish. =]
