Thoughts and Notes Leading Up to the Sabres
- Sidney Crosby's point streak is still alive, as he's now registered 20 points (9 goals, 11 assists) in nine games.
- Buffalo's last outing was a 2-1 loss to the Lightning on Saturday. The Sabres are currently ranked tied for 11th in the East with 19 points.
- The Sabres like to shoot the puck, as they currently rank fifth in the shots-per-game department, averaging nearly 33 shots per. The Penguins on the other hand are second in overall in least shots allowed, roughly 27 per game. Will they cancel each other out?
- The AP story out of Buffalo is saying we will not see Tim Connolly or Ryan Miller for the Sabres tonight, as they are both dealing with groin injuries. The injury bug has also claimed Rob Niedermayer with a knee injury. The Sabres are adjusting with some line changes.
- We all know how much Patrick Lalime loves to play against the Penguins, so keep an eye on that for tonight. He was 1-1-1 against the Pens last season, but the game that sticks out the most to me is the one on December 29th when he replaced Miller with the Sabres down 3-0. Buffalo rallied to win 4-3 in a shootout.

From the Pens Report this morning at the morning skate.
Ryan Miller and Tim Connolly will not play tonight. Lalime is still on the ice for Buffalo, an indication that 22-year-old Jhonas Enroth may start against the Pens tonight
Thank goodness…Lalime always brings his A-game against the Pens

Here’s hoping Sid will (at least) stay on pace for the 56g-74a-130p season he has going now.
As far as the shooting spectrum, I kinda like being on the downside of the “Against” column rather than the upside of “For” column. If I wasn’t so lazy, I’d have stats to back that up :)

Regarding teams in the top 10 of “Shots Per Game”, the Penguins are 4-4 against those squads.
Interesting note, in those 8 games we’ve held those teams to 26.7 shots per game, well below the 32+ they average elsewhere. So for what its worth, it appears low shots against beats high shots for, in the stats columns if not on the scoreboard.

Sid with the Hat-Trick: that would be cool.
I am hoping for a good game and of course a Win.

Just heard Steigy mention on 970 that the Sabres will be starting a new guy tonight. Didn’t catch his name, but doesn’t look like Lalime is getting the nod.
