How to Jumpstart Geno??
It is great to see the Pens and Sid improve each game but to keep progressing, I think most Pens fans will agree we need to get Geno lighting the lamp. It would be great to have a healthy Staal back to play with Geno but maybe the Pens need to acquire another winger or bring up Jeffrey so someone can start setting up Geno the way Gonch used to. Nothing like seeing a pass from the point over to Geno in the left circle for a cannon shot goal into the back of the net. Go Pens!!!

Sykora
Malkin’s best years were when he had sykora on the wing.
I love cooke and talbot but unfortunately they are hard workers and not playmakers or natural goal scorers. Malkin gets space from their physicality but has not been able to tear it up without another talented wing….
But perhaps this delayed staalkin experiment could do something. It should be a nice christmas present.
give him time
he’s getting shots and chances, just not putting them behind the goalie.. it will come.
Honestly, I have no answer to this question anymore. Yeah, his wingers certainly aren’t the best, but it’s not like Geno’s playing all that well right now either.
He will be missing the game tonight, by the way.
My Thoughts on the Pens & Twitter
"A player's game is a composition. Sometimes it's a line, sometimes a paragraph. Right now, Crosby's game is a novel." -Scott Burnside
I tought about it too yesterday...
…and for the solution we need Malkin’s parents, borsch and playoffs. Playoff intensity should help him. The problem right now could be in focus or motivation.
I have high hopes for the Staalkin line, as Jordan is such a good player. Especially when Malkin gets his aim calibrated right. If it doesn’t work, I am on the side of keeping Malkin as a pure center, because Malkin is just better there, we won 1 cup like this. The switching with Talbot between C and wing causes problems too like iń the last games goal he passed to wing, but he was the winger himselfand caused the turnover
In playoffs I predict Malkin proves himself. Sid starts strong, but Malkin finishes the enemies off in the Conference and Stanley Cup finals (vs Wings). (+Conn Smythe going to Fleury)
He needs to get healthy first and foremost. I don’t think his bruised knee (that he’s had a brace on for a month) is feeling better. So hopefully missing tonight’s game gives that a chance to get back to full strength. But if he needs a full week or two, give it to him. It’s still early in the season. Given that Malkin’s able to skate today, he’s not too far off, but better to get him as close to 100% as possible.
Otherwise, he just needs better players. Matt Cooke is a pure 15g, 15a guy. Doesn’t matter if he plays with Malkin or Staal/Kennedy. Max Talbot is good in spurts, but not a consistent guy and doesn’t have the playmaking chops or hands to be of much use in helping Malkin. When Staal comes back it should do Malkin a world of good.
"Game's the same. Just got more fierce."
I agree the much-delayed Staal-Malkin line should tear it up – I’m especially glad the new 3rd line is doing well, so people don’t complain that Staal should be on the 3rd line. Also, what’s the deal with Asham? I thought Malkin has looked his best so far playing with Asham…..I think this line would be wicked:
