Day 1: Jarome Iginla, Alex Ovechkin help their countries get their roll on

Stay connected for news and updates

As Frank said below, USA won easily 3-1 against the Swiss.  The Canadians and Russians also played (and won handily).

Jarome Iginla led the charge for the Canadians, who easily whooped up on Norway by the count of 8-0.  Pittsburgh's Sidney Crosby assisted on three goals and Dany Heatley scored two goals for the Canucks.

Then the Russians took the stage against Latvia, Danis Zaripov and Alex Ovechkin scored two goals a piece and Pittsburgh's Evgeni Malkin got a goal and an assist.

Overall on the night I think Canada looked the most in control, Russia basically toyed with their opponents and the US put in an honest effort to get a two goal win.  Nothing unexpected in the first day of hockey competition, simply put: the teams supposed to win, won.
