Rangers Trade for Olli Jokinen???
Finally, the trade that was to happen on Sunday between the Calgary Flames and the New York Rangers has taken place. Calgary, who is quite a mover this trade season, has traded Olli Jokinen and Brandon Prust to the New York Rangers in exchange of Ales Kotalik and Christopher Higgins.
Now that the trade is complete, Jokinen has automatically become the third leading scorer on the Ranger behind Vinny Propsal, and Marian Gaborik. some stats.......Jokinen is currently riding a 2 pts in last 2 gp streak, wow. The 11 year vet Jokinen, is on pace to score 51 pts for the year. Olli is a big presence up the middle at 6-3 215lbs. He is a good face-off man, which is really all he has going for him. Jokinen is a better scorer than playmaker, so playing with Gaborik wouldn’t make much sense. He is known as a moody scoring center that lacks consistency, and leadership. So he should fit right in with the Rangers.
Olli Jokinen has only broke 80 pts twice in his career, both for Florida in 05 and 06. That is why this trade doesn't matter; the Rangers are a team filled with talent, but they have no heart. Kotalik, who was traded to Calgary, was reported to not even travel with the team. Are you serious??? He’s a member of a team, not his own team. Kotalik had a horrible year for the Rangers posting only 22pts in 45 games with a +\- of -18. Brandon Prust is an aggressive fore-checker, but a little pest of a player at 5-11 195lbs. He is a physical agitating winger, who will learn from one of the best agitators, Sean Avery.
So let’s recap, who cares. It’s not going to change the train wreck that is the New York Rangers 2009-2010 season. Go Pens!!

It’s sort of a mix between it helps and it doesn’t matter, as far as I’m concerned. Moving into second in scoring on the Rangers isn’t exactly difficult for some players. Outside of Gaborik, the Rangers have no one. And that’s a lot to have to bank on a guy with a career of injuries like Gabby’s had, but much to their credit he’s staying healthy this season.
i don’t think the Rangers lost anything on this trade because Higgins was kinda dead weight in terms of salary and playability. So it was worth the shot for them to see if Jokinen can gel in NY.

Did he play with anyone of consequence in Fla? Too lazy to look, but he is with a true superstar that will draw a load of attention away from him. This could be dangerous for us. At least until Jokkinen decides he doesn’t want to work anymore and starts sulking.
It’s also worth noting that this is his third jersey in two seasons. I don’t remember where i read it but somewhere I saw something that laid out how well Jokinen meshes with forwards based on speed, goals, assists, etc. Really wish I knew where that link was, but basically the gist of it was that Jokinen is more or less hit or miss on any of those combos. Guess it really does come down to whether or not he pushes himself or chooses to sulk.
