2009 Stanley Cup Final Game 6 - The Road to Redemption
The Olympic break continues, and so I present part 2 in my retrospective of the '09 Cup Finals. Why does part 2 involve game 6? Well, I couldn't make it to games 1-4.
Game 5 had been a serious bummer. We really felt for the players, but we had also taken some serious abuse from the fans in Detroit. We resolved that if there was a game 7, we wouldn't be there, just not worth it. Kind of like going to Philly to watch games. Why bother? It was tough to get excited about another 530-mile drive to Motown for the chance to see another beating like the one we had just witnessed.
Of course that feeling lasted about 90 minutes. Once we got back to our hotel room and started thinking about it, it occurred to us that if there was a game 7, that meant that the Pens would be coming off a big win in game 6, and if the players could lift themselves off the mat and respond after the game 5 debacle, then we could sure as hell be there to support them. So I immediately went online and bought the game 7 tickets that I had been keeping my eye on. In retrospect, I can't believe we ever had any doubts. Just thinking of the countless Penguin fans out there who would have loved to have been at game 7 but couldn't for various reasons, and there we were knowing that we could go if the Pens could just make it happen, that's just an opportunity you can't turn your back on.
But that is game 7, and this post is about game 6. The Pens still had to come up with a big win at home, and even though NBC would prevent thousands of fans from watching the game on the lawn at the Igloo, we knew that the crowd inside would be 17,132 strong, there to support our boys.
Anyway, here are just a few of the hundreds of pictures that my wife and I took that night. I wish they could have been better. The dream is always to be able to get that one photo that truly captures the heart of the game, but let's face it, when it is game 6, facing elimination, the Igloo is rocking and Scuderi is down there making kick-saves to preserve the 1-goal lead, it isn't always easy to get that magical picture and scream your head off at the same time. My hope is that at least one of these shots speaks to you and maybe brings back one of your treasured memories from that amazing game.

You keep this up and you may very well become the pensburgh residential photographer. heh

PS – if you make a fanpost instead of a fanshot you won’t have to load each pic as a comment. You can put them all into one post. Give it a shot if you’d like.

Excellent suggestion. It was only in the last few comments here that it occurred to me to try putting more than one pic in a comment.
