NOTES

This is it.  For those of you following the olympics, it all comes down to this game.

For those of you not, well, rest assured the season continues in just a few short days.

Until then, go U-S-A.

“I never knew February 28th was Halloween in Canada.”

Thank you, Al.

If the last meeting between these two was any indication, this game should be amazing.

Goaltending will be key here. Miller has been sensational and he’ll have to be if the USA is going to take the gold. I assume Luongo will be starting for Canada; if he can match Miller, the Canadians may prevail, if he can’t, the USA will take it.

After having the chance to see it in action, I have become a convert to no-touch icing. The game still has the same flow and energy, but with less chance of a player getting killed.

Attention Canadians: There is no need to say “Luuuuuuuuuuuu” when Luongo even as much as stickhandles a puck behind the net.

by SlayerGhaleon on Feb 28, 2010 3:29 PM EST reply actions

Bad time to break a stick; good thing Miller was solid.

It’s been decades since I’ve seen boards with no advertising on them; I’d forgotten how nice it was.

It is increasingly apparent that I am talking to myself here, so I will sign off for now. I’ll check back a bit later and see if some more people have arrived. GO USA!

Been a Penguins fan all my life, I LOVE Sid. But the argument on who the best player in the world right now, between Sid and Ovi, focuses too much on offensive players. Ryan Miller is the best player in the world right now, and in my opinion it’s not even close.

What an unbelievable game!

Roenick just said it best, someone is about to become a national hero when they score the next goal.

Eff you Crosby, eff you.

Well, if it had to end this way, I’m glad it was Sid that got the goal.

by OlenWhitaker on Feb 28, 2010 5:54 PM EST reply actions

Goddamnit. This better be the last damn time I’m pissed at Crosby.

But man if it was anyone, I’m glad it was him.

I am disappointed by the result, but I am not at all disappointed in the game or the effort that team USA put out. USA can wear their silver with pride. Orpik was great in this game with some great play on odd man rushes and some huge hits. Congrats to Sid and Flower on their gold and Orpik for a well earned silver.

by OlenWhitaker on Feb 28, 2010 5:57 PM EST reply actions

Orpik was a beast in this game. He definitely gave it all he had.

In the broader sense, both nations can be very proud of their olympic efforts, not only in hockey but across the board. With fourteen gold, Canada now holds the record for most gold in one winter games and with thirty-seven the USA now holds the overall medal record. A great showing by both nations and a memorable olympic games.

by OlenWhitaker on Feb 28, 2010 6:02 PM EST reply actions

And only the 2nd time ever that the USA has had the most goals in a Winter Olympics.

Ok when is our next game…

by mhuff13 on Feb 28, 2010 6:15 PM EST reply actions

Now I know how it feels to feel like the game was fixed just for Sid to win the gold
