Penguins milestones on the horizon
In the eye of the storm --literally for Sunday's game-- and in the middle of a four day layoff, why not take a look at some individual achievements that the Pittsburgh Penguins are on the brink of:
- Sidney Crosby: 299 career NHL assists
- Marc-Andre Fleury: 10 games played away from 2nd in franchise history (behind Tom Barrasso)
- Sergei Gonchar: 199 career NHL goals
- Evgeni Malkin: 4 points away from over-taking Greg Malone (364) for 13th on the team's all-time scoring list
- Craig Adams: 98 career NHL points
- Jay McKee: 11 games shy of 800 NHL regular season games
- Mike Rupp: 2 assists from tying his career high single season mark in the NHL
- Chris Kunitz: 6 goals away from 100 NHL career goals
- Alex Goligoski: 7 games played away from 100 NHL career games
- Mark Eaton: 1 point and 1 assist from tying his career high single-season mark in the NHL in both categories
- Bill Guerin: 4 points away from 850 career NHL points
- Matt Cooke: 4 goals from tying his career high single season mark in the NHL
- Pascal Dupuis: 2 points from tying NHL discipline czar Colin Campbell (plus Erik Christensen and Sergei Zubov) for 106th in the franchise's record books [OK we're reaching now]
- Brooks Orpik: 5 PIM's away from 500 in his NHL career
- Kris Letang: 8 games short of 200 for his NHL career
- Max Talbot: 11 games short of 300 for his NHL career
- Jordan Staal: 3 goals shy of 80 for his career; 3 assists shy for 80 for his career
- Tyler Kennedy: 3 GWG away from tying 39th in franchise history [really reaching]
- Brent Johnson: 1 win away from tying Jocelyn Thibault for 30th in franchise history
- Ruslan Fedotenko: 53 shots on goal from tying his career high single season mark in the NHL [alright we're really reaching now, but he just got to 300 points so give us a break]

Last night I watched Ovechkin get his 500th career point. I actually cheered on the Rangers. I still feel dirty. We need some Penguins hockey quick!
The numbers I really care about are the inches of snow and the length of travel delays to DC. :-)

Starting to snow here in DC….Roads clear but they’re calling for up to 30 inches in the next 24 hours.

It’s already started piling up here in Morgantown, WV (surely most of you Pburghers know where I’m talking about), and they’re calling for another 8-15". Snow flakes the size of your head right now.
Best part is, it’s tax season, so I have to work tomorrow no matter what! :(

Yeah it’s something. I’m glad to see hockey get more popular in these parts but some of the bandwagon-ism makes me smile.

really? from what most “hockey fans” tell me the Penguins are the only ones with bandwagon fans…..

Everyone likes a winner, no doubt. I guess it’d probably be the same for a non-Pens fan in Pittsburgh (worse, since Pens won the title) but I guess that’s how it goes in America. Even in Chicago you can kill hockey with terrible ownership and a bad product.

Yea I know I was just kidding. The way I look at it tho, if a there are bandwagon fans that means the team is growing in popularity, and that cant be a bad thing. Heck Ovie got mentioned by Kornheiser on tv the other day, and he wasnt even playing against Crosby!!

Kornheiser is notorious around these parts. I don’t think he’s ever sat through a full game. He usually goes to about 1 hockey game a year, sits in Leonsis’ box and is gone by the 2nd period…..Probably past his bed time by that point anyways.

That was actually a pretty exciting game. A lot of scoring but it definitely didn’t end the way I wanted it to.

Craig Adams, 98 points.
So when can we expect him to hit the 100 mark? 2012? OMG Craig Adams 100th point will be the end of the world!!!

I can hardly believe he’s only 21.

I'm calling the triple bank shot
Eaton with the assist to set career highs, Sid with the second assist for #300, and Gonchar with the goal for #200
I thought about working Craig Adams in there, but that would just be crazy talk.
