Around SBN: Jeff Sullivan's MLB Trade Deadline Primer

Up next: Alex Ovechkin, Nicklas Backstrom and the Washington Capitals

[SBN Caps blog - Japers' Rink]

Record: 40-12-6 (1st in the East)

Scorers: Alex Ovechkin (39g, 43a), Nicklas Backstrom (25g, 46a), Alex Semin (26g, 32a)

It almost feels pointless to toss up a preview for today's game, seeing as how it's less than 4 hours from start time, but I guess we can at least address a few things.

  • First off, the Pens made their way to the hotel in Washington at 2 a.m.  2 a.m.  Doesn't sound like a four-hour bus ride to me.  If not for NBC and the Super Bowl, this game would've been pushed back.
  • A win will extend the Capitals' win streak to 14 straight.  The 92-93 Pens hold the NHL record with 17.
  • Prepare yourself for the patented Crosby vs. Ovechkin storyline.  For NBC, it's still a selling point.
  • Chris Kunitz may be in the lineup for this one.
  • If the Pens wake up for only one afternoon game for the rest of the season, let it be this one.

Puck and thread drop at 12 noon.  Game on NBC.

The Caps have been sleepwalking the first two periods of afternoon games for the last two seasons – this game could get pretty flat.

come on! no excuses… winter-storm or not, they should be as motivated as possible… Let’s go Pens!

You have to see it for yourself...

This game is huge for me

All of the Caps fans are talking insane smack. Saying that they’d break the Pens’ record and that Crosby was, well I don’t know if you can swear on this site, so I won’t say.

I'm a Pens fan in Maryland.

Where did you see that? Looking at the schedule, it IS certainly possible, but doubtful. They’ve been hanging onto the streak by a needle over the last few games.

I watched that Rangers game. Probably the closest they came to losing it so far, huh?

Goalies had to be great in the last few until the offense came around late. Thrashers game as well was tight early on.

So I guess

our guys made it up there. Here is hoping for a better performance for them than yesterday.

I have a bad feeling about this one. Hopefully, I’m wrong.

Help for Haiti

Remember that today is the day for the help for Haiti fundraiser, so be sure to yak it up on the game thread. I’ve invited everyone from Japers’ Rink; hopefully some of them will drop by as well.

Those of us who are snowbound may be a little crazy. I’m sure many will stop by.

I have a C on my heart.

A short 4 hour bus ride turned into 9.5 hrs,but if they keep this up(its 2-0 as I write this),I’d bus them everywhere.
