It’s amazing that he’s not out for the season, let alone that he even came back in this game. This may sound bad coming from a fan whose own player escaped suspension this week, but that was flat out intent to injure. It shouldn’t matter if Downie does that to Godard or to Sid, it’s disgusting to watch.

Holy shit. That is completely unnecessary and bad. Downie is getting punishment for that, Crosby didn’t even have the puck! What did Downie hope to accomplish by wrapping his leg around Sid and dragging him down besides injury? Wow…
I agree totally about the stupidity of the average person. Horrifyingly, nearly 50% of people are even stupider!
When is the league just going to kick Downie out? He’s a complete idiot, a danger to players throughout the league and everything that’s wrong with goons. He tried to pick a fight with Ovechkin, tried to take out Crosby’s knee and almost decapitated Dean McAmmond a few seasons ago. He’s a complete tool. He should get suspended for this, but as GW40 mentioned in the game recap, he likely won’t since Sid didn’t milk the injury.

honestly i’ve never seen anything this blatant re: an intent to injure. everywhere i look on the internet, they’re calling for downie’s head right now (including japers’ rink). i think you’ll see justice on this one, frank.

I don’t know what, if any, actual thoughts go through Downie’s head, but I wondered when this play happened if he somehow thought he would be celebrated as a hero for striking back at Cooke by going after Sid.
