Evgeni Malkin's X-Ray is negative (which is a positive)
From the team:
The Penguins recieved good news on Monday in regards to the recent injury to star forward Evgeni Malkin. The defending Art Ross and Conn Smythe champion suffered an undisclosed injury after being hit with a shot in Pittsburgh's 2-1 victory at Tampa Bay Sunday evening.
Though the injury could have been more severe, x-ray results showed nothing was broken, and Malkin is being listed as day-to-day by the team.
We'll wait and see how Malkin progresses, obviously this is about the best news we could get. The Pens have two days off but then begin another taxing stretch of playing five games in eight nights, and 7 games in 12 days.
It remains to be seen when Malkin can re-join the lineup, but day-to-day with no fractures revealed is sure better than week-to-week with damage.

Sweet! Hockey gods smiling on Pens right now. Couldn’t believe Sid didn’t at least sprain something last night on another benign play aginst the frickin Lightning (remember that high ankel sprain play? ) and Malkin really looked to be hurting so nothing broken is the best news possible. Let him rest it up though, don’t rush it…
Agree with your sentiment, but there was nothing at all benign about the play yesterday between Sid and Downie.
But you’re right, his luck against Tampa was looking extremely bad for a while there.

Not like they can beat Jersey anyway, har har har.
Avalanche fan stuck in Penguin territory.

i meant innocent looking at first, i mean they come together along the boards and all of a sudden Sid’s on the floor in pain. Much like his ankle sprain, he glides into the boards and the rest is history. You’re right though benign was probably not the best word to describe it, especially after seeing the replays…
@Richard R
I swear that i don’t recall the Pens getting a single break against the Devils this year but you’re right, they’re 5-0. But does this mean you’re rooting for a Pens-Devils matchup in the playoffs, seeing how that one’s in the bag for the Devils?
Keep in mind the Pens were 1-3 last season against the Caps in the regular season (and that win was in the shootout). If a playoff matchup happens you might as well throw the regular season results out the window.
Clearly it’s a big game for seeding and in the scope of getting to the playoffs, but once we’re there, I doubt it’ll matter.
Wayne Gretzky had it wrong: 100% of the shots Gary Roberts doesn't take DO go in.
Does Malkin still have a deal with Bauer? Hes using an Easton S19 stick now. Hes wearing the same skates as Gonch now too, they look like he found them at a yard sale. There seems to be a lot of mesh on them to be very form fitting and light, but a lot less protection. From a picture anyway, ive never seen them up close. FSN did a little story on them before I think.
If it winds up being a foot thing, I wonder if he’ll rock the skate guards like Jay McKee or Talbot did last season with his series of ankle/foot injuries.
Follow the Penguins on SBN @ Pensburgh.com and twitter.
I bet he won’t put any more bulky or cumbersome equipment than needed. A plugger like Talbot or especially McKee can need them with all the shots they’re called on to block, an offensive minded forward like Geno just got caught at the wrong spot. That’s just my hazard of a guess, of course.
