FSN cameras...
Isn’t it about time to give us a different camera angle… I couldn’t see the puck for like a min and a half because there was no camera faced that way…
XOXO
pathetic, we are already beaten, the devils are in there heads, i’ll be shocked if we get another goal, sense 1 is our limit with NJ…don’t know what is worse, our shaky defense, not even close to what it was last season with the “piece” scuds & the USS H. GILL… or MAF not making the saves when the defense disappears….
Don’t blame MAF for the two goals. The D absolutely left him out to dry on both of them.
Our D and turnovers are to blame for the two goals, not MAF

what is this?!?
the “most terrible giveaways the lead directly to breakaways” contest?
You have to see it for yourself...
Enough of the Teen Titan defense experiment. Keep GoGo out of there. he’s in over his head and we’re now seeing that what he did at the start was just beginners luck.

Why, was he really so great last season? Yes, he came in and (pretty much) filled the (very large) hole left by Gonchar being injured, but it’s not like he set the world on fire. He looked very promising at the start of this season, but since his injury, he’s been inconsistent AT BEST. I’d love him to continue where he left off in October, but we haven’t seen it recently.

Is it better to be mediocre against the rest of the league, like the Devils?
by PensAreYourDaddy on Mar 17, 2010 8:32 PM EDT up reply actions
That made me really sad. It’s not his fault. He wasn’t having a great night, but three breakaways?? The defense is responsible.
I'm pretty sure I'd be whacking stuff too...
But why waste time hitting walls? I’d be taking these defensemen to task.

So...
who else is absolutely infuriated with our D so far?
It could easily be 6 or worse, from what I’ve seen.

It is, but they’re going to have to start wrecking some Devils to do it, and they don’t seem to have the stomach for that sort of play tonight.
Maybe Staal can have his annual period where he scores a natural hat trick.

Well, Letang just Ovechkin’d that guy and didn’t get a call. How long until people complain about it?

The ice in the arctic and antarctic isn’t the only thing in danger of melting.
There are more interesting things than watching the trapping Devils play hockey; like watching paint dry, grass grow, the clock in a doctor’s office.

No, they were chanting ‘you can’t beat us’ (I’m not saying I think that, I’m just telling you what they said). Sometimes it’s hard to tell, though.
Jacques Lemaire makes me nervous.
He has an idea of how to frustrate a team like the Penguins. Which is why I don’t want to see these guys in the playoffs. 0 for 6. And remember, the Lemaire coached Devils teams of the mid nineties did a fair job of frustrating the high-powered Pens teams of that era. They won four games to one in the playoffs on their way to the 95 cup.

Regular season doesn’t mean diddly squat. Us Caps fans know that all too well.
Although I was surprised you didn’t pick up more D-men at the deadline.

Jacques Lemaire is probably one of the smartest men in hockey. There’s a reason he has more Stanley Cup rings than fingers to wear them on (eleven, in case you were wondering, half of them coming during his days as a player for Montreal, a couple as part of Montreal management and one for coaching the Devils to a championship in ‘95). I know a lot of people dislike Lemaire because of the style of hockey he likes his team to play, but that doesn’t change the fact that he is a very good coach.
Absolutely True
What always fascinates me is the defensive-system-coach we think of now versus the guy who put up a bunch of points centering Shutt and Lafleur. He can seemingly adapt to anything.
"Never mistake motion for action." - Ernest Hemingway
Some people would be shocked to discover that the neutral zone trap is not the brainchild of Jacques Lemaire, but a system developed by the Swedish national team during the 1950s as a means of beating the Soviet Red Army teams of yesteryear. It was first utilized in the NHL by the Montreal Canadiens in the ‘60s and ’70s, helping the team capture several of the Stanley Cup titles that would secure the organization’s legacy as a dynasty. People may most remember those Canadiens teams for their stellar offense (and rightfully so, with players like Guy LaFleur and Larry Robinson racking up the points), but it was their strong defense – in addition to their great goaltending – that rounded out there overall game and made them what they were.
Many former Canadiens of that era, not only Lemaire, but Robinson (who coached the Devils to their second Stanley Cup) and Jacques Martin have taken the style of hockey played by their former team and parlayed it into success for the teams they would go on to coach (Martin, who is now coaching the Canadiens, has his team in playoff position with points in all seven of Montreal’s games coming out of the Olympic break using an updated version of the neutral zone trap).
That’s interesting history. Given that there really are no new ideas, I guess I always figured that the Devils didn’t invent the trap, but I certainly never knew all of that.
by PensAreYourDaddy on Mar 17, 2010 10:17 PM EDT up reply actions
Nope. Ironically enough, we must credit the nation that gave us the Sedin twins and Henrik Lundqvist with the creation of the trap.
Not to mention Abba and Ace of Base.

The Devils won this one pretty easy, and swept the Pens, but if they are so great and their coach such a genius, why are they so average against the rest of the league?
It’s a serious question, not just sour grapes. I just don’t get it.
by PensAreYourDaddy on Mar 17, 2010 9:40 PM EDT up reply actions
You're Ridiculous
42-24-3
- 6-0-0
= 34-24-3
That record is average against the rest of the NHL? Youre entitle to your own opinion not your own facts. Why dont you lose a few more games in OT to inflate your point total?
36-24-3…..36 wins, 27 losses…..average.
by PensAreYourDaddy on Mar 17, 2010 9:59 PM EDT up reply actions
Well I guess if your 0=6 against them with less than a goal a game your below average… Just using your logic here.,..
No denying that, but 41 wins and 23 losses against the rest of the league. Not too shabby. I understand you want to be able to beat the best (at least the best from last year) to become the best, but how will the Devils fare against the other teams they have to face in the playoffs?
by PensAreYourDaddy on Mar 17, 2010 10:02 PM EDT up reply actions
It wouldn’t make me sad if someone did.
I acknowledge nothing of the sort, however, only that they have proven to be a very formidable opponent.
by PensAreYourDaddy on Mar 17, 2010 10:05 PM EDT up reply actions
Well, I meant average if we take out teams like Toronto and Edmonton.
by PensAreYourDaddy on Mar 17, 2010 10:08 PM EDT up reply actions
But we cant…. the east essentially breaks down like:
Wsh, Pit, NJ
Buf (bc of Miller)
everyone else
Caps record is inflated bc their division is garbage while Devils and Pens play each other plus Rangers and Flyers
You bring up a great point about the Caps. They get so many garbage wins against the Southeast. Wouldn’t it be a joke to consider AO as a Hart Trophy favorite considering his team is 7-2 without him? How valuable is he if he is getting suspended and his team plays better without him?
by PensAreYourDaddy on Mar 17, 2010 10:14 PM EDT up reply actions
I know as a Penguins fan that your memories of Bobby Holik most likely aren’t as fond as mine, but I remember after he came back to the Devils last season from the Thrashers, he slammed an interviewer for what he thought was undue praise for Ovechkin’s offensive output, saying it was easy to score so many goals against a division as defensively weak as the Southeast. He was like, “now Jarome Iginla, there’s a great hockey player.”
One of the things I always loved about Bobby (aside from that one hit in the ‘01 playoffs against the Penguins where he knocked Darius Kasparitus off of the ice and right into the Devils bench and practically into Scott Stevens’ lap) is that he always had the balls to say what everyone was thinking but wouldn’t say.
I wish I’d heard that quote. Somehow I missed it, despite the fact that I agree. Not to denigrate the talent that Ovie does have, but he would be significantly less visible in a different division. I LOVE Iginla. Yeah, he’s not as consistent as I’d like him to be, but he is a joy to watch and so talented. I’ll watch him as a winger over Ovie any day – on and off the ice
Blame the NHL. I, for one, would support a re-tooling of the Patrick division.

Strong point….but now they are down to 33 wins, 26 losses against the other 27 teams. It’s looking worse for them all the time.
by PensAreYourDaddy on Mar 17, 2010 10:06 PM EDT up reply actions
I agree with you here
I think us being swept by them has more to do with voodoo, bad luck or Brodeur getting in our heads than it does a difference in actual skill. I think we are a lot closer in talent than the 0-6 says we are and in the playoffs I’ll take our two straight stanley cup appearance level of experience over theirs.
"We are not normal, We are Legends. People will tell their kids about us." - Deon Butler before Ohio State Game 2008.
How could they be just "Average"...
when they are 4th in the conference and tied in points with less games than the pens? Wouldn’t that make the Pens merely average too?
Just pointing out the obvious.
Against the Devils , the Pens are well below average, but they own the rest of the league.
by PensAreYourDaddy on Mar 17, 2010 10:07 PM EDT up reply actions
While I will respond to your question in a moment, I would like to start off by saying that I was merely agreeing with another poster about the merits of Jacques Lemaire as a coach, not making any statements about the team he currently coaches. What I don’t get is how my praise of Lemaire’s achievements as an individual can be construed in any undue praise for his team.
And my response to your question is this: the Devils are currently seeded second in the Eastern Conference and, barring a major catastrophe, will make the playoffs for the thirteenth consecutive season in a row this year. In what way can that be construed as mediocre? If they were fighting for a playoff spot like Boston or the Rangers, perhaps I could see your point. But they aren’t, so I cant.
i actually didn’t even reply to your comment.
I’m just saying that they have 36 wins and 27 losses against the rest of the league, not exactly stellar. I was wondering why that is the case, since I really don’t watch many Devils games other than against the Pens, Caps and Rangers.
by PensAreYourDaddy on Mar 17, 2010 10:01 PM EDT up reply actions
Now you’re starting to see my point.
by PensAreYourDaddy on Mar 17, 2010 10:07 PM EDT up reply actions
But if it doesn’t matter, than who cares if the Devils are just ‘average’ against the rest of the National Hockey League (though I am in no way conceding that they are)? If the Devils make it to the playoffs, they have just as good a shot against any other team they come across, regardless of whether they swept them in the season series, or didn’t beat them once in the regular season. If it doesn’t matter who did what in the regular season, than it doesn’t matter for everyone, not just the Penguins.
Attention Devils fans
Look, I’m just having a little fun. With most (sorry, most, not all) of the Pens fans here ready to throw in the towel and run for the hills, it seems way more interesting to fight back a little and show that we still have a little spirit.
I’d be a fool not to admit that the Devils are a very good team and have TOTALLY OWNED THE PENS THIS SEASON. As much as I dread it, it would be nice to see them face the Devils in the playoffs just to see what happens.
by PensAreYourDaddy on Mar 17, 2010 10:12 PM EDT up reply actions
And I agree with the addition of Kovalchuk a playoff series would be quite interesting…. goalies are about equal as are forwards
Wow, I’m not sure how many folks are going to agree on that goalies being equal thing.

Mistakes...60 minutes of them...
Players and coaches alike…how many odd man rushes..how many frickin times was Eaton out of position…..not enough trades at the deadline…should have scooped another real defenseman…we can beat the trash of the league..but when it comes to the elite [0-6 vs NJD]…forget it…golf anyone….and wait till tomorrow night…we’lll be lucky if any of the Pens are still walking after the B’s get a hold of them. Boston GM, fans and players all gunning for the white jerseys tomorrow night..hold on to your “helmets” sports fans…
And yet NHL teams that don’t even deserve to be in the AHL beat the Devils.
As far as those New Jersey Teams of the mid 90s goes, Pittsburgh had two superstars and the others basically stood around watching those two score. Remind you of anything?
Pittsburgh’s passing sucks. They shoot from the blue line especially on power play. They handle the puck too much. And they really overthink the competition. Go back to Novenber and December and look at the physical play then compare the last 2 months.
There isn’t enough scoring talent on this team to play like the 90 – 93 teams, at least the way the play is designed.
There isn’t enough scoring talent on this team to play like the 90 – 93 teams, at least the way the play is designed.
Lol whoa whoa. Are you kidding me? Maybe not like 92-93, but 29 other teams would kill for the offense we have. Who wouldn’t want Crosby, Malkin, AND Staal down the middle? I said it before and I’ll say it again: lets not be illogical here.

See everybody tomorrow. Hopefully Sid, Geno (if he plays), Cooke, and the Pens make it out of that one in one piece.
871
Geez
Sid with 23 minutes tonight…more than anybody. Well, I guess he got 3-4 extra minutes cause of Geno.
871
Yeah, I saw those minutes. I hope he can still give everything for tomorrow. He’s played that much before, but not on what has to still be a sore knee. He should be pissed off enough to do some damage if he gets a little help from team mates tomorrow.
That’s a concern…him not looking good for tomorrow.
It might be a slow moving game…I anticipate a longggg 1st with a few fight.
Hopefully one of the B’s doesn’t decide to be a douche and do the Downie.
871
I predict tomorrow’s game doesn’t come close to living up to the hype. The B’s are too concerned about getting 2 points against a vulnerable Pens team. Maybe there’sa fight, if Cooke has some backbone, but that will be about it.
by PensAreYourDaddy on Mar 17, 2010 9:52 PM EDT up reply actions
I agree. I’m not sure if having Colin Campbell, Mario, and some other “officials” in the building watching will make a difference, but even without them, I expect it won’t live up to the hype. Boston is desperate for the points….or playoffs get tougher for them. And, now, Pens need the points even more. Time to cheer for the Leafs for tomorrow against the Devils (I know…painful…but if it helps the Pens I’ll do it. Being a Torontonian…..my friends will never let me live down a cheer for the Leafs :( )
if Cooke has some backbone
I was just talking to my father about how cowardly (sorry, it’s the truth…I love the guy but it’s true) Cooke can be sometimes. If he doesn’t drop the gloves at the first opportunity (which I think he will), I will lose all respect for him.
871
I agree he’ll likely have to and should if challenged enough, but actually would prefer he not risk the Pens losing as a result of a stupid acceptance. Boston won’t just want the relaliation or message. They’ll want to irritate enough to through the Pens, and Cooke, completely off the game and into the penalty box. We need to play smart before we start accepting fights.
And let’s slow down the train a little bit. The 2 points are WAY more important for the Bruins. Big difference between fighting for 2/4 seeds vs fighting for your playoff lives.
