Possible Playoff Lineup... What does everyone think?
What do you guys think about this lineup? I know your all gonna sqawk about Eaton but I'm sorry I just think McKee's defensive capabilites, namely shot-blocking, is important and he needs to be in the lineup come playoff time. Also I liked the Leopold - Gonchar pairing they experimented with when Leopold first got to Pittsburgh. I think he is a great compliment to Gonchar and is a good 2 way player. Also, I know Talbot has been non-existent really as of late but we must not forget who scored both goals in game 7 last year in the Cup finals!!! I have him in on the 4th as my X factor player because he can certaintly be thrown in on any line in any situation if need be.
I'm relatively new on here so any advice about posting or any comments / constructive criticism of my lineup here or my posting in general would be greatly appreciated. Thanks and LETS GO PENS!

I like most of it. Adams, though, I hesitate on. He doesn’t get the points, but he is pretty awesome on the PK. I’d sit Feds rather than Adams. On the D, Eaton quietly gets the job done most nights. I think they need more of a rotation on D, depending on the team they are playing, anticipated match-ups, etc. Eaton we may need in some games, and Gogo or McKee may need to sit out some. If we need speed, McKee can’t be there. If we need stronger shot blocking or D, I think Gogo may be the one to sit based on how is defence, overall, has been going.
Of the 6 regular defenseman Gogo strikes me as the one to lose minutes come playoff time is he becomes a liability on D.
Feds and Talbot are proven playoff commodities so they must have a jersey come playoff time but I agree they should get limited fourth line role minutes and can be plugged in from time to time with Geno or Sid
Life is about one simple choice, get busy living or get busy dying
I like it. I might tweak the D pairings with: Gonchar/Orpik, McKee/Letang, Goligoski/Leopold, but that’s just a matter of personal preference.
I think in reality they will have Craig Adams in the lineup, Mark Eaton will be in the lineup. We may not like it, but I think we all realize that’s going to happen.
Wayne Gretzky had it wrong: 100% of the shots Gary Roberts doesn't take DO go in.
Remember in the beginning of the season when we had all of those injuries to defense men, but when GoGo and McKee were working together they were doing a good job? As much as I have been complaining about GoGo and how horrible he is, maybe they should try matching him together again, and maybe sitting Letang who hasn’t been producing much (tonight’s assist excluded.)
Eaton, though I remember him last post season giving up a bunch of stupid penalties at the worst possible times, he does do a lot of little things that add up. So, I would go. . .
Orpik/ Gonchar
Eaton/ Leopold
GoGo/ McKee
Your Forwards are for the most part right on, though Adams is a very interesting variable to throw in there as well. I would base that last spot based on these last twelve games and post season careers.

No Letang?
Have a tough time chewing on that one. He’s got 3g 24a in 62 games played this season and only 5 of those assists are on the powerplay. That means his even strength play has him 22 points. Compare that to the rest of the D core at even strength (pts = G+A):
Letang: 22pts
Gonchar: 16pts
Gogo: 18pts
Orpik: 17pts
Leopold: 17pts
Eaton: 13pts
McKee: 8pts
He’s producing better than any other defenseman at even strength which I think is very important come playoff time. I also think he’s improving on the defensive side and hes always up against everyone else’s top line and is still in the plus side of the +/-
He’s essential to the Defensive Core this season.

Ok, rotate Letang and GoGo, but defense wins championships, just like Scuderi and Gill did for us last year. So I’m playing the best defensive players- we have enough offensive power that we shouldn’t have to rely so much on our offensively minded defensemen.
And just because Talbot scored those goals last year doesn’t mean he’s going to do it again this year, especially the way he’s been playing. He’s dead weight out there this season. Giving him playing time just because of last season is ridiculous. He’s done for the year I think.

Talbot has had an injury plagued season. He has never gotten a chance to get back in the swing of things because of that. Don’t doubt Talbot he wasn’t overly impressive last year during the regular season i think he had like 20 points in 70 games. He was good on the draw, he works hard, kills penalties and can throw his weight around. The pens need to play him these last ten games or at least rotate him in hopes of him finding his stride just in time for the playoffs. He did it last year and got hot at the right time and don’t think we can count him out on doing that again this year he just needs to play and not get hurt out there. Rough year for Talbot and a lot of other Penguins.

I don’t think you want to take a guy out of the lineup who skates and moves the puck as well as Letang. It’s one thing to say you want your strongest defensive D-men out there, but they still have to be effective at getting the puck to the forwards in good positions. We’ll die if we have to depend on Sid or Geno always going back to bring the puck up out of our zone. Besides, I think Letang is much stronger defensively than some give him credit for.

I know he doesn’t have many fans here, but Craig Adams = Playoff Hockey. I’d have him on the 4th with Rupp and let the play of Feds/Talbot decide which of them you play/sit.
The rest of what you have looks like a pretty good place to start.

I agree on Adams. He should prob be in the lineup cuz of experience and PK ability and just his physical presence. I just couldn’t take feds out of the lineup for some reason and I know Talbot has been having an off year too but gotta give him respect for what he did in last years playoffs

Lines
I like Dupuis on the first line, as he brings some speed to the line and good backchecking. I like Kunitz on the second to add a physical presence to that second line. My lines
Guerin-Crosby-Dupuis
Poni-Malkin-Kunitz
Kennedy-Staal- Cooke
Rupp-Talbot-Adams
1st: Orpik – Letang
2nd: Gonchar – Eaton
3rd: Leopold – McKee
I know must people would disagree, but I think Gogo sucks and turns the puck over way too much, you cant do that in the playoffs…. Feds should rotate in with Adams based on how the series are going.

I like your lines—mostly b/c you are sitting Feds.
But I also like putting Crosby with Dupuis and Guerin. He gets the most out of those guys and I think he can be productive with them, but he will still need Kunitz some of the time.
Malkin-Poni are the core of the 2nd line. Rotate in other players (NOT named Fedostinko) including Talbot and even Rupp. They just need someone who will hustle of the forecheck.
To anyone who says that Feds is a proven playoff commodity, I say, TB’s Cup was a long time ago and last year, he MISSED more glorious opps than the rest of the team combined. Malkin, esp., was setting him up constantly and still his conversion rate didn’t even smell the Mendoza line.
I thought Shero should have dealt Feds at the deadline to some sucker contender that would overpay for his 2 Cups. If they could have gotten a 2nd back—to replace the one swapped for Leopold—that would have been sweet. But a 3rd would have done it if I were GM.
IMO, Fedotenko is this year’s Petr Sykora — he doesn’t have it anymore, so he should sit — (assuming Talbot and the rest of the forwards are (reasonably) healthy.
What good is a “finisher” who can’t finish?
Feds is so weak on the puck, if a d-man breathes on him he falls over. Awful.
The 3rd line stays.
The 4th line — I agree, Adams brings a lot in terms of grit and PK. He’s got 2 Cups and he’s money come playoff time. You don’t sit him or Rupp.
The D is a mess.
McKee is too slow and GoGo makes too many mistakes, but that only leaves 5.
And I don’t have a good sense on Leopold yet.
