Up next: Henrik Lundqvist, Olli Jokinen and the New York Rangers
[SBN Rangers blog - Blueshirt Banter]
Record: 29-27-7 (9th in East)
Scorers: Marian Gaborik (35g, 34a), Vinny Prospal (14g, 33a), Ollie Jokinen (13g, 27a)
The Penguins are 4-0-1 against the Rangers this season and will hopefully close things out tonight with another win, preferably in regulation. New York currently sit 9th in the East, easily one of those bubble teams vying for a spot in the top eight before season's end.
Since returning from the Olympic break I guess you could say the Rangers are off on the right skate with a 4-1 win over the Senators Tuesday night. All four goals came in the second period as Henrik Lundqvist backstopped a 24-save effort for the win.
Of course the Rangers aren't without some concern for fragile forward Marian Gaborik, who suffered an injury while playing for Slovakia just last week. He was a scratch for Tuesday's return to the regular season and, if the rumor of a groin injury holds true, I suspect he will remain out of the lineup tonight as well.
So perhaps we should turn our attention elsewhere tonight. Might I suggest Olli Jokinen? You may remember him scoring the game-winner back on February 12th. Jokinen's currently third on the team's scoring list with 40 points (13g, 27a).
I also have to admit I developed an all new appreciation for Ryan Callahan following these past Olympics. While I might utterly despise his team, I definitely think he put in a solid effort for Team USA and I can't knock the guy for that.
Puck drops tonight at 7:00. Stop on by for the game thread.

beat NYR
This is one Islanders fan hoping you beatthe hell out of the Rangers…of course we have to beat ATL tonight and pull within a 3 pts.
Without Gaborik it’s going to be tough for the Rangers to generate a lot of offense. Too bad they have Olli Jokinen to score his obligatory goal for the Penguins otherwise Marcy Marc might be in good shape to get his first you know what of the season.
Wayne Gretzky had it wrong: 100% of the shots Gary Roberts doesn't take DO go in.
hoping to go after the first period and get cheap tickets.
unless you all want to contribute to the “we love katie” fund and buy me one.
Katie, check out my reply to you in the buffalo game thread and let me know if you’re interested.

hey! thanks for the offer…i really appreciate that. i’m only 20, though, so, as much as i’d love to get a drink before the game, i think they might judge me a bit if i tried. is it worth going anyway, in your opinion?
Darn that legal drinking age!
Is it worth it? Good question. As this is your first, and maybe last? trip to Mellon, it might be nice to check it out. It comes with a few perks – you can get in as early as 2 hours before game time, so no waiting in line outside. Of course I’m a semi-old fuddy-duddy who doesn’t mind avoiding the crowd whenever possible. The bathrooms are cleaner and less crowded. They do a pretty nice buffet, and with it being a 1pm start time it will be very breakfast-oriented. But that is kind of pricey at $28 a person. You never know when you might bump into Bourque or Lange on their way up to the radio booth, or even Mario on his way to the owner’s suite.
I guess it depends on what kind of game day experience you’re looking for. You might have more fun hanging out with the fans outside. Whatever you do, I hope you have a great time. I’m weird, but I get goosebumps knowing someone will be there taking in their first Pens home game.

preaching to the choir. =)
you’re wonderful. thank you so much. pens fans are amazing people for reasons like this. my brother and i am going together, but he’s currently out of the country, so I can’t get in touch with him until saturday. so can i get back to you later about it?
i don’t think you’re weird. i’m SO excited. i’ve grown up in flyers territory, go to school in rangers territory, so being among friends is gonna be kind of weird, haha.
Didn't read your link, but
You have got to be talking about the Igloo Club. Say hi to Armand for me!

Interesting they list Talbot as the #4C and not Adams.
Is that a sign that when Poni joins the team, it’ll bump Adams out of the lineup and the 4th line would be:
Dupuis/Feds – Talbot -Rupp
I would be behind that

I’d also prefer to see Max put in a few games… although he’s been close to awful in the FO circle
You have to see it for yourself...
He’s got to get his timing back, plus having a bad shoulder and wonky groin has to make it tough to win out faceoffs.
But yeah, he definitely has to improve

Tonight, let’s hope that Fleury begins the stretch of hockey that has been his only consistent stretch of his career – March through the Playoffs.
Just wondering...
From the scouting report on penguins.nhl.com:
The Penguins will be looking to finish the season unbeaten against the New York Rangers (Penguins lead 4-0-1).
Is this proper to consider a team unbeaten when they have lost in OT? It’s bad enough that “winning” percentages are skewed by the point for overtime loss, but we can at least admit that the losing team was beaten.
Sorry, I’m sure this argument was probably settled years ago, but it’s a slow afternoon and almost 3 hours til they drop the puck.

That’s kinda what I was thinking. If an overtime loss ends a win streak, wouldn’t that stand to mean that you aren’t undefeated when you have an overtime loss?

Good point, you often see teams say they’d be undeafeated like this, when really they did lose.
I guess maybe they meant the Pens would at least get a point in every game? But that doesn’t sound as good as sweeping the season series.

Yeah I guess that’s about right. A point streak of sorts against the Rangers is probably a better way of putting it. Either way, they haven’t loss in regulation so I’ll take it.
