In Memory of Sgt Matthew Moran
I saw this one over on the Pensblog. Link.
I didn't know Matt but had seen him at some games. Sounds like he was a great American, serious Pens fan and a real solid guy. There is a link to donate to the Mario Lemieux Foundation in Matt's honor. MLF is always a great cause.
Sorry, I know there isn't as much content to this as we would normally expect from a fanpost. I was hoping more folks would see it by doing it this way as opposed to a fanshot.
The content expressed in fanposts does not necessarily reflect the opinions of the staff here at Pensburgh.com. FanPosts are opinions expressed by fans of various teams throughout the league but may be more Pittsburgh-centric for obvious reasons.

Definitely worth a fanpost. (I didn’t see this before I did links today, which is why I also mentioned it there).
Sad situation. Hope his family/friends find comfort and he’s at peace.
"Don't matter who did what to who at this point. Fact is, we went to war and there ain't no turnin' back. I mean, s---, it's what war is, you know? Once you in it, you in it. If it's a lie, then we fight on that lie. But we gotta fight."
Definitely sad news. Hate to read about that kind of stuff.

As soon as I saw the former soldier bit, I knew why he killed himself.
The armed forces really need to be more on the ball about this stuff.
I think his friend said it best when he said, “for reasons we will probably never know or understand.”

Two stories:
First, I had a very good friend become “non-deployable” (I don’t know the military term) because working the checkpoints eventually led to a nervous breakdown. That being said, once he was “diagnosed” the help was there.
Second, I recently sat next to an ex Navy SEAL on a 3 hour plane ride. His current job was working for a non profit that tries to reintigrate and help these guys.
The help is out there, but apparently it is not getting to everyone that needs it. I know it seems impossible but I find it unacceptable for any of these brave young men to fall through the cracks. God bless all of them.
Thank you for your service Sgt. Moran may you now rest in peace.
Put on your dancin' shoes.
Being in the military, I’ve dealt with this quite a bit. The problem is, some of the guys…when you see them at work…they seem like they always have. Little do you know they are being tormented inside. It’s a sticky situation. You have to constantly be on the lookout for any signs at all, but if there are no signs….you never know that they need help unless they tell you.
Really a sad thing for everyone….
you can't really tell who needs the help
Some of these victims always seem so healthy and happy that it’s a rude shock to wake up and find out that they’ve taken their own life…
Never knew Matt, never was in a place to meet Matt, still feel sad that a fellow Penguins fan saw things so bleakly that he’s given up.
I’ll raise my 1992 commemorative shot glass. RIP buddy.
