Go Go..... It is time for you to GO GO!!!

Is it just me or is Alex Goligoski hurting the Penguins this post season, and specifically in this series?

His statistics point to him having a productive post season: 7 points, 6 PP points, a +2, but he is not passing my WTF is he doing test.

Goligoski has had hands of stone this series, routinely failing to gather in pin point passes while trying to sneak back door.  He has turned the puck over more in his own end then any player I have seen in recent memory and when was the last time that he hit anyone?

Montreal has shown, to anyone that was blind to the obvious that playing solid in your own end can lead to success in the playoffs.  With Leopold back from injury isn’t it time to sit Go Go and bring in the more physical, more defense first Jay McKee.  McKee is a solid D-man that can be put on the ice to kill penalties and can be counted on to block five to six shots per game.  Goligoski only blocks shots by accident.  Playing against a team that is opportunistic rather than offensively oppressive, to me it seems only logical to play people that will reduce the number of opportunities you give up.  You can bet that the Habs will come out flying tonight, would you rather see a D-man that it hitting ,blocking shots, and getting the puck deep or one that turns over the puck near his own blue line trying to make a cute behind the back pass?

I think he’s actually been pretty good so far in the playoffs. He struggled a bit in the regular season but he is a young guy, who still needs some work defensively. Gogo has a tremendous amount of potential.

no

gogo is 25 years old and this was his first full season in the NHL. his potential is just about fulfilled. He is not going to get much better than what we’ve seen. And what we’ve seen is a player who puts absolutely all his focus on the offensive half of the game, and neglects almost all of his defensive responsibilities. I can only hope Shero will trade him this off season while he still has some market value

Back in the days of Josef Melichar I looked forward to the bonehead plays of the day. I’m coming to expect these “bonehead plays” from both Goligoski, Fedoenko, as well as Ponikarovsky. All 3 have failed in my book

I think you might be overreacting a bit. As I’ve said before, I was probably the leader of the “Bench GoGo” fan club at points during the regular season, especially since he was brought in to bring an offensive punch to the team and well, couldn’t. To make matters worse, when his offense wasn’t clicking he couldn’t even balance it out with solid defensive play.

but I also admit that he is still young and will develop before our eyes. I don’t think the Pens can afford to wave good-bye to him next season in any capacity because free agency is going to wreak havoc on the defensive corps. Letang needs to step up big time in 2010-11 and GoGo will follow.
