Who To Root For Now?

Who's left?

West

East

Chicago Blackhawks

Montreal Canadiens

San Jose Sharks

Boston Bruins

Philadelphia Flyers

Granted the Flyers are currently down 3-1 against the Bruins in game 7 of their series... they are still in it for now, so they are still included.  /edit - Flyers/Bruins now tied at 3... wtf

West

Okay, for the West we have the Blackhawks and Sharks.  As a Penguins fan I really have no hatred for either team...  Chicago is an original 6 team so I kind of tend to at least want to pull for them... but then again, they are from CHICAGO!  From my experience, a majority of Chicago fans are rude jerks with no common sense and they just generally annoy the heck out of me, so any time I can root against them, I'm going to do it.  I do kind of like some of their players and think they are probably the most talented team left... But, the MAJOR negative for them is...  #81.  Nothing makes me happier than to see him jump team to team in order to win a cup and see him go down.

As for the Sharks.. the main pulling factor for me to root for them is the fact that I have nothing against them.  Nothing really for them either.  They are one of the teams in the NHL that I don't hate, dislike, love or like in really any way.  I kind of like Joe Thornton just because of how good he is... but I really have no reason to root for them.  My biggest negatives for them are that they are in California and that they are in the West.  Other then that, I have nothing against them.

East

The Montreal Canadiens...  another original 6 team... the team that came from the 8th seed and eliminated our beloved Penguins.  Okay...  I still don't hate the Habs.  I'm pissed that they eliminated the Pens and I don't think they are going to make it past the next round... but the Pens played like crap and the Habs had their stars really step up and take over the series(Cammalleri FTW???).  But the fact that they eliminated the Pens also kind of in some way wants me to root for them.  If the Canadiens win the cup, then the team that eliminated the Pens was the best team this year(sorta), so it's kind of makes me feel at least a little less sorrowful that the Pens were eliminated... (not much).  That being said, the Habs have won the cup 24 times and they have Lapierre who is pretty darn annoying.  So no love for them.

The Boston Bruins... another original 6 team.  Kind of another team to me that I really don't hate or anything, just don't really have any feelings for them.  I was happy to see Savard come back after his concussion, but that doesn't make me like them or anything.  I was thinking that if the Pens and Bruins made it to the Conference finals that it would be a good game with some history (due to the hit).. but that obviously didn't happen.  A big plus for the Bruins is Mark Recchi.  It's VERY hard to root against him, especially while wearing black and gold... even though it's not the Pens black and gold.  I'm still amazed that Tim Thomas is no longer their starting goaltender... I really like Tim Thomas because his first name is my brothers first name, and his last name is my first name... I always thought that was kind of cool.  I also got to watch him alot in the AHL(I'm in Houston and the AHL Bruins came around quite a bit to play the Aeros).

Philadelphia Flyers... okay, no way as a Pens fan could I ever actually root for the Flyers...  I'm hoping they will get eliminated tonight, even though I was pulling for them in the last 3 games(just because I didn't want any sweeps... playoff hockey is AWESOME!!).  But they are the flyers, so I am obviously going to hate them and hope they lose now.  I am impressed that they came back from 3-0 to force a game 7 and I believe it would be a nice footnote for some trivia if they came back to win this series... but they are the Flyers, so I hate them and hope they lose.

So, WHO DO I ROOT FOR?????

I guess my answer would be.. the Sharks.  Go Sharks!... I guess

It's all about the Sharks for me

Personally,

I want Montreal to go to the Stanley Cup finals, because if we don’t make it, at least the team that beat us made it there.

I don’t want Philadelphia to win Game 7 let alone another round.

I don’t like Boston, their fans or their team, so they can get to the conference finals but as long as Montreal hammers them, I’ll be happy.

I don’t like Chicago because they feel like they’re entitled to win the Cup because they have young and talented players. Any team that cocky doesn’t deserve support.

Which leaves San Jose. Personally, I’ve always enjoyed watching them play and they have very devoted fans that have suffered long enough. They’ve had a very good team for a long time now and I just think it’s their time. Plus, I really like Danny Boyle, he’s a total class act and I wish he played for us.

This sounds an awful lot why people don’t like Pittsburgh…so I’m not sure I can go along with that logic.

Nobody in Pittsburgh made a billboard mosaic with Crosby & the Stanley Cup before we won it.

I agree, but that is what people say. I am also of the opinion that it is OK if you back it up.

Yeah, I’ll pass on the Hawks and Edzo.

Really? And Sidney Crosby is not a sniveling, petulant, self-aggrandizing little turd? He gave Montreal no respect in his post-game, and we’ve been beaten to death over the past 3 years about how the Penguins are the new dynasty.

I love how people keep saying “I don’t like Chicago because they feel like they’re entitled to win the Cup because they have young and talented players. Any team that cocky doesn’t deserve support”. I haven’t met one fan yet from Chicago who feels this way. Do some damn research before making a broad generalization.

I’m pulling for any team that plays Philly. Big-time Montreal fan this week. If they lose, go Western Conference.

I’ll probabaly pull a little bit for Chicago being from Illinois and having co-workers from Detroit that HATE the Hawks is a side benefit.

I really wanna see

Marian Hossa lose again. Old habits die hard I guess

by mojo88 on May 15, 2010 2:07 AM EDT reply actions

It’s hard cuz of Hossa to root for Chicago, but they are still the Pens’ Western Conference incarnation. And you wanna know who’s a bigger douche than Marian Hossa? Dany Heatley. ’Nuff said.

Yeah, Heatley is the only thing holding me back from being as close to excited as possible about rooting for the Sharks.

As long as Philly doesn’t win, it really doesn’t matter. Would like to see MTL lose too, because I am a bitter, bitter man and don’t want their strategy of hooking/holding and trapping to pick up even more momentum league wide.

It would be fitting if Hossa sh*t the bed once again, but I’m over him. Still would be good for chuckles, plus that’d piss Detroit fans off to see their rivals as champs.

I might start to actually feel bad for the guy, losing 3 times on 3 different teams. Maybe Chicago would even buy him out and nobody would want him: he’s a curse!

Yeah I’m pulling for MTL in this next round but they sure better lose the Finals for the same reason you said. Teams model themselves after the Cup winner. If I have to see even MORE of that boring, illogical, frustrating style next year…

The Habs are where they are because

their goalie has played out of his mind when it mattered most and because Gionta/Cammalleri played great and Fleury had too many weak goals against.

I don’t think their defensive style will be copied… the thing that will tried to be copied is having a hot goaltender come playoff time… if that’s possible.

its gotta be sharks, would have rooted for canucks , but my head says Blackhawks gonna win it…will never root for puppy killing flyers, & forget the habs, they have enough cups,,

Sharks for me, always like top see a team that’s never won before drink from the cup, also like Thornton and Marleau, especially the latter, a cup ring would be fitting for his reaction to losing the ‘C’. First and foremost though:

Sharks

… but I wouldn’t mind seeing Chicago vs. Montreal SCF match-up… really anyone but the Flyers

You have to see it for yourself...
