Get Over It
Dear Penguins fans,
I've noticed a lot of anti-Chicago sentiments around here, and that's all good. Believe me, I hate your team more than you hate mine, but the notion that you all don't want to root for the Hawks because of Marian Hossa is ridiculous. It's no better than the Sharks fans who are booing Brian Campbell every time he touches the puck.
The guy was a rental for the Sharks for one portion of one season, and he draws that much of the ire of the San Jose faithful? That is just plain stupid and you Pens fans are doing the same with Hossa. The guy was a rental. What the hell do you want from him? He was a FREE agent and he made a choice he thought was the best one which ANY OF YOU would have done too. Did he choose wrong? Clearly, but everyone makes mistakes (well except if you're from Pittsburgh, where you can ride your high horse all day long).
Lastly, another common refrain around this blog and one that I've heard elsewhere from disgruntled Pens fans, is this notion that Hossa "wet the bed in the '08 playoffs". Man, if that's wetting the bed, I bet more NHLers would want to wet the bed more often, namely the 2009-2010 Evgeni Malkin.
Bottom line, your team won the cup last year without Hossa. Don't let some silly, unwarranted grudge define your fanbase. Let the man get on with his career, grow up, and let it go already.
The content expressed in fanposts does not necessarily reflect the opinions of the staff here at Pensburgh.com. FanPosts are opinions expressed by fans of various teams throughout the league but may be more Pittsburgh-centric for obvious reasons.

I’ve actually said a few times I really don’t care about Hossa at all. Let him do whatever he wants. You’re just making broad generalizations based on a few scattered comments and doing so in genuine troll fashion. The readers on Second City Hockey despise the Pittsburgh fanbase and Crosby and often shrug off any comparisons to the Pens in an effort to define themselves. But rather than jump over there and say something in any defense I know my place and don’t troll.
Follow the Penguins on SBN @ Pensburgh.com and twitter.
I didn’t know pointing out facts was trolling. I also wasn’t aware that the Pens were discussed at all on SCH. I was reading some posts over here that were talking about how Hossa left and how some of you are still butt hurt about him leaving.
Also, while I enjoy SCH, don’t lump me in with that blog. I am my own person, and I don’t represent or claim to represent anyone but myself. I felt like chiming in and due to my freedom living in America, I can do that if I choose.

it’s not just that he was a rental… Him leaving was a slap to our organization… He wanted a better shot at winning the cup, anyone can be okay with a claim like that, but going to a team we just lost to in the final?
Some of us are still pissed about Hossa, some of us aren’t, it’s the nature of fans, we’re all gonna feel differently about the same guy.. but for you to come here and say things about our fanbase, our players and then hide behind a very laughable take on your first amendment…
besides, I’ve seen your comment on Sid on the Who To Root For Now? post. You don’t come on to a blog like this and say this kinda stuff without expecting a reaction…
After about a year and a half, I've finally got around to giving myself a profile. Yay me!
Just so I never have to answer this again. I'm from Singapore so whenever you see me online, I'm either sleep deprived or just waking up.
Most of us stopped hating Hossa
as soon as the Pens hoisted the cup. Now it’s just fun to watch him hop team to team in hopes of winning a cup(or whatever his goal is) and watch his teams get eliminated.
Sigh. Bringing American rights into it now, are we?
Listen, we’re pretty open to having a rational discussion with opposing fans. Your initial post came off as instigation. If you didn’t mean it that way then I apologize, but titling a post “Get over it” is a bit brash for someone who doesn’t want to be classified as a troll.

Not signing Hossa that following year gave us the cap space to sign more valuable pieces which ultimately ended up in us winning the cup. As for rooting for Chicago i would say I’m pro Chicago way before im a Sharks fan.
Seriously why cheer for a team that has a ghost like Joe Thornton on it, the guy could seriously hang up the blades and play a round of golf or two and not many would notice he left
Amen to that.

Hossa is SCUM.
Take it from an impartial source. I wouldn’t have that man on my team if he came with a league-minimum cap hit.

I think Hossa has paid his karmic debt.
But posts like these remind me of why I root against Chicago at every opportunity.
I grew up in Chicago….and let me tell you, I was probably the only person in my high school that even followed hockey. Now that they are winning, the “fans” have become obnoxious and have this sense of entitlement. They better win the cup this year, because next year’s team will be drastically different.
Like others have said above (but it bears repeating) ...
Hossa didn’t just come as a rental player and leave.
He came and had great chemistry with a top player in the league, and then made everyone around him believe that he had every intention of staying. Sid, Shero, the media, the fans, etcetera. While I’d like to believe that he had every intention of staying in Pittsburgh until the Detroit opportunity arose, it didn’t really play out like that. He handled it poorly, and he left in a real “thumb my nose at you” kind of fashion. In a city where you start to feel like your athletes are family, he became the abusive jackass who left us for another woman with no warning whatsoever.
On the other hand, most of us are pretty much over it, and we just dislike the guy. We don’t wish him well. And it would be extremely entertaining to watch him lose in a third final in a third consecutive year.
If that happens I might start to feel bad for him. Except then he’ll open his mouth and say something ridiculous and arrogant, and the feeling will go away.
Go, Shero, Go!!! And also Brian Burke.
when someone say...
i have a better chance of winning the cup somewhere else, yeah you get a little ticked off. sure detroit had a better chance but u dont say that publicly and we wouldnt have to be looking for a winger for sid becasue he would have been a great one
The reason that we Pens fans is not based on his performance, it’s based on his stupid comments ,when he left. In case you never heard them or read them before. His reason for signing withe Wings was"I want to go to a team that has a CHANCE at winning the Stanley Cup". This was certainly the worst insult to ANY team, let alone the Pens, who not only had a CHANCE, but won it. He showed no class by making those unwarranted comments. I bet Wings fans don’t like him either. Who did Hossa ever beat, where are his Gold medals, or Cup rings. Sorry but as a Pen fan , I cannot forget those words.
but the notion that you all don’t want to root for the Hawks because of Marian Hossa is ridiculous.
Why? He chose not to re-sign with the Penguins, signed with a rival and said it was because he thought they had a better chance to win it. That’s not endearing and more than worthy for me to hope he doesn’t win, which means your team too.
Also not endearing: beating up a cab driver over 20 cents after an underage night of boozing it up.
Down with Kane. Down with Hossa. Down with the Blackhawks. I hope they take your games off television again. I hope all the bad things in the world happen to you and nobody but you.

I do miss my friend in Chicago texting me: “Dude, $5 lower bowl tickets tonight!” Not that I was about ready to drive out to Chicago for that offer, especially given the quality of the team at the time, but the thought of sitting in the lower bowl for $5 was quite endearing.

It is not hate in the first place. Secondly, he could sign with whomever he wanted o but ., shold not have made that comment. Simply say it was his choice. Or I signed for more money.
Even if he left without saying anything … he went Detroit for a single-year contract at less money than Shero offered him to stay in Pittsburgh. There’s really only one way to read those actions. Saying it out loud may have made it worse, but not more obvious.

Having said that. Ill root for the Hawks
The reason is , one of my kids lives in Chicago and is a Hawks fan There’s no hate on my part Hooks, that’s a very strong word. Is dislike for a no good guy Hossa. He never for one second try t amend his stupid comment.
The hate stuff was meant jokingly and tongue-in-cheek. I agree, cheering for sports is way too recreational to actually have real hate.
I think we’re all over Hossa, he turned his back on the Pens so many Pens fans don’t like him, which I think is pretty reasonable. By natural extension, chances are many Pens fans aren’t going to cheer for his team. I like guys like Toews, Bolland, Versteeg, and I have nothing against Chicago really.
But I’d rather see SJ win.
Not me. I have Heatley-hate (er … dislike?). And I might like the other Chicago-ans better than the other SJ-ans.
Without much cause.
And I reserve the right to change my mind.
Or maybe I’ll just enjoy the hockey.
Go, Shero, Go!!! And also Brian Burke.
First off, this guys a douche.
Second, I don’t like Hossa because, not just because he left a team because he thought they would have a better chance, but he did it twice. He ditched Pittsburgh when we lost, then he ditched Detroit when they lost. He’s just an asshole who cares only about himself.
So do I not like Hossa, yes. But I like Toews and Kane and I’m really starting to like Byfuglien and wish we had him. But that still means I’m impartial about who wins the West.

Only problem with Byfuglien is that his name really shouldn’t be pronounced the way it is.

As I stated in my post, about half of you have proven me right. It seems that everyone here is right, riding around on the ol’ high horse, and anyone who disagrees is a douche. Lovely. Well, at least some of you guys want to look at things rationally, which is nice and appreciated.
I said I hate the Pens and I do, but that doesn’t mean I don’t respect the organization which has cultivated a culture of winning. Just the same, I was only trying to present some evidence for people to not hate Hossa, but of course some people don’t want to see it as that. Just call me a troll, it’s easier that way than to have a sensible conversation, no?
"They've done studies you know, 60% of the time it works Everytime."

Did you really expect a different reaction? Your original post was said in a condescending way, and basically lumped all Pens fans into one large category. (Which was that it’s ridiculous for us to cheer against the Hawks’ simply because many of us don’t like Hossa.)
Bottom line, your team won the cup last year without Hossa. Don’t let some silly, unwarranted grudge define your fanbase. Let the man get on with his career, grow up, and let it go already.
Why do you care how people feel about him? Should we tell you to stop hating Crosby? It’s not like fans don’t have an understandable reason for not liking him. I’m curious, what’s your reason for not liking Crosby?

To quote Anthrax: “Talking to you, is like clapping with one hand”
"They've done studies you know, 60% of the time it works Everytime."
You came to a blog dominated by Pens fan who just suffered a crushing defeat in a game 7and lambasted us for the alleged crime of disliking a player who signed with a rival in order to win the Cup. Beyond that, you haven’t even provided any of us with evidence of the virulent anti-Blackhawk hatred that is supposedly oozing from the bandwidth of Pensburgh.
What sensible human being can’t understand that constitutes being rude?

The idea of a civilized debate died the second you started throwing out incendiary comments about us fans, our players and our team. If you want to have a frank discourse about our team, please start by showing us some of those facts that you’re so proud of but we have yet to see.

Is Hossa your lover?
“I don’t care if you hate the hawks, just don’t hate them because of my spouse”
No one has said (or spelled) what you allege though. Plenty of intelligent response that
A) Hossa dissed Pittsburgh on his way out of town, saying he had a better chance to win in Detroit
so:
B)Penguin fans hope (to varying degrees) that Hossa does poorly and his team does not win the Stanley Cup. By extension of him signing with Chicago, this leads most Penguin fans to hope against Hossa’s personal success, which means seeing Chicago lose.
Don’t see how hard that is to grasp.

You contributed single-handily to one of the most uncivilized debates I can remember on this site. You kicked it off on that note, and so why does it surprise you that it followed in suit?

You just lost all credibility for quoting Anthrax.
And Mr. I’m going to use the First Amendment to show I’m not doing anything wrong here, since when did this, to quote High Fidelity, become a fascist regime where it’s bullshit to state a preference or opinion, which is exactly what people have done to explain why they still do not like Marian Hossa.
"Half the game is mental, the other half is being mental." - Jim McKenny
I think we all understand that anything can happen in free agency, so we don’t hold leaving against Hoss. The thing that pissed us all off was the fact that he said that “Detroit gives me the best chance to win the Stanley Cup” less than a month after being two wins away with Pitt. That was upsetting. Yeah, it’s ok to feel that way, but, out of respect to the fans and your former teammates, you don’t vocalize it to the media.
I’m actually cheering for your team, btw. The Hawks remind me of the Pens with their young talent. Kane and Toews aren’t Crosby and Malkin, but any of the other 28 teams would probably be happy to have either pair.

To the troll that posted this
I think the one that has to get over it , is you who writes this stupid post, sort of “in your face” on the Pens website. As I wrote before, I don’t care for Hossa because of his comments. What happens to him if he wins or losses, won’t erase the fact that he is not a good professional for his insulting comments. By the way the Hawks are winning in spite of him, with other players that make much less than him playing bigger roles.
Not even the best deal
Not only did Hossa leave the Pens for Detroit because he thought the Wings had a better chance at winning the cup. But he also left despite the Penguins offering him more money and more years in a contract than Detroit did. It was a huge slap in the face.
Anyone else get kind of immaturely excited when there are new comments on this thread? Like, maybe someone will add something completely ridiculous to make a completely ridiculous post even more completely ridiculous … and get us all going again?
