I don't typically like BleacherReport.com, they have some okay articles but a lot of the time the writers are morons... but I came across this article and thought it was pretty good.
It's really weird how things worked out... I can't imagine us not having Crosby and/or Malkin. The Penguins are a prime example of how to build through the draft(and how to be a bad enough team for so many years that you are able to put together a plethora of high first round picks to create a fantastic team). Another good example of that would be the Tampa Bay Rays.
