What would we have to do to get Crosby on the Leafs...?
Wishful thinking never ends in Leaf Nation. For now, Go Leafs! (and Pens!)
oh crap, that’s all I had. One year, my Spanish class was in a room used by the French class, and that was all I remember from the stuff on the wall.
Although I’m guessing you said it was ok as long as I have a number two pencil?

Bingo! You’re a genius PAYD!
It’s funny, I was actually wondering if that was a joke from a movie or TV show that I’m too young to get…

Max Talbot
awesome player
seems like a great guy
he’ll bounce back after the injury last year and have a great season
his absence/injury impacted the Pens way beyond what he contributes to the scoreboard
and yes, its clear that Ovechkin is, well, what Max said
Yeah I’m sure 85% of NHL’ers that aren’t Ovechkin’s teammates feel the same, but I don’t know the wisdom of Talbot going so far to say it on the radio.

Wow.
I’m like ‘okay, this guy is a real douche’
I love Max.
Did anyone end up seeing the shooting competition at the end of the press conference? The NHL Network didn’t show it.

Will listen to the interview when I get home tonight. Hopefully, the Pens’ site will have video of the shooting competition later today (maybe even NHL.com?).
It’s online on PenTV (there’s 3 videos, I just linked the first one).
Also, there’s new video of Sid skating at Consol (maybe he was the first person to skate at the new arena?).
So when's October you ask? Well, here's your answer.
Sid and Mario stepped out on the ice for the first time together. How cool is that.
"Game's the same. Just got more fierce."
Awesome. I figured they’d do something like that since Sid was in town, but I wasn’t sure.
Where did you see it? Was it on the NHL Network or something.
So when's October you ask? Well, here's your answer.
Thank you!!
Imagine being one of those kids skating with Sid…!

Where were all these people when Alex Semin voiced his opinion of Sidney Crosby?

You really think calling someone a douche personally is the same as someone saying “What’s so special about [Crosby]? I don’t see anything special there. Yes, he does skate well, has a good head, good pass. But there’s nothing else.”
Really? Personal attack vs. Commentary on skill level.
At the end of it all, each player was called out.
Semin’s comments were ridiculous for just the plain stupidity if them (he found out what was so special about Crosby, and even before then, Sid had nothing to prove to him).
I refuse to say that Ovechkin is a douche, but Max’s comments actually have some merit to them:

So when's October you ask? Well, here's your answer.
uhhhh.. Never seen that one before
What we’re trying to say is that contrary to popular belief, some people actually don’t like Ovie, and those people agree with Max’s statement. A hockey player voiced his opinion about Ovechkin, an opinion shared by many. When another hockey player voiced his opinion on Crosby, there wasn’t as much ink wasted (or the Internet version of that saying).
What would we have to do to get Crosby on the Leafs...?
Wishful thinking never ends in Leaf Nation. For now, Go Leafs! (and Pens!)
I think there actually was. A lot of people were pretty pissed about it, but, at the same time, a lot of people just laughed it off because of how ridiculous the claims Semin made were.
So when's October you ask? Well, here's your answer.
Really? Well maybe it seems like even more of a waste of time because there’s nothing else going on.
What would we have to do to get Crosby on the Leafs...?
Wishful thinking never ends in Leaf Nation. For now, Go Leafs! (and Pens!)
Well, I think that in the sense that the Crosby/Semin incident occurred in October and this incident occurred in July, then maybe the spotlight is on this story because it’s the only real story right now. In October, everyone’s worrying about their own team for the most part. I still think about the same amount of press is going around for each, but this is more magnified because of the time.
Also, a lot of people thought that Semin’s comments were so ridiculous and so easy to argue against that they simply didn’t argue.
So when's October you ask? Well, here's your answer.
Semin
He stated you could take a “cardboard cutout” and the “NHL made him into a star.” Something along those lines….
WE agree, Sid had the last laugh and had nothing to prove—to anyone.

That was my favourite word during the Playoffs this year, even though it isn’t exactly lady-like, and I am glad to see it in full circulation this summer. And in some ways, it describes some people so well, wouldn’t you say?
Whoever could you mean?
What would we have to do to get Crosby on the Leafs...?
Wishful thinking never ends in Leaf Nation. For now, Go Leafs! (and Pens!)
Ha ha, I know, right? Gee, let me think. One skates with his mouthguard hanging from his mouth, was photographed with a couple of girls while shirtless, scored the Cup-winning goal, and had an altercation with a Buffalo taxi driver over 20 cents. Another is missing a front tooth and was photographed as the President of the United States. Yet another was responsible for Max Talbot’s shhhh moment and throwing away his team’s upper hand when they were 3-0 up. I could go on with the list.
Dude, if you’re Ray Shero you pull the trigger on that and you do it so fast you risk breaking your finger on the fax machine. Kane is an extraordinarily talented wing and Duncan Keith is the best D in the game right now, signed to an extremely reasonable contract for a very long time.
Geno is an excellent center, but Keith is better at D than Malkin is at C, while Kane is much better at wing than Orpik is at D. The cap-hit on those contracts is roughly the same, that’d be flat out robbery by Pittsburgh.

We know Malkin is better than Kane and Keith is better than Orpik, but which gap is bigger?
I think Kane is overrated. He’s the most sheltered forward in the league in terms of zone starts, and it’s always been that way. He’s always at the top in OPCT among blackhawks, and the last two years he’s been teetering on the brink of 70%. He’s also faced crappy competition the last two years and has seen ice time with some of the best teammates any player has in the NHL. Factor in his mediocre adjusted +/-, and he doesn’t look that hot.
I think it really boils down to the fact that Geno has a lot more with a lot less. Geno hit 77 pts this year and had a terrible year, while Patrick Kane topped out at 88 when the Blackhawks were at their peak. Geno has two 100 point seasons under his belt while Kane never broke 73 before this year. If Geno could play on the Blackhawks pp with the minutes, teammates, competition, and zone start Kane had, you’re looking at a 120-130 point year.
I think it’s much closer than you let on.
Hockey Blogger at Pensburgh.com
Kane has played exactly three years, one of which was his rookie season, Geno has four.
Kane is younger than Geno is by a couple of years.
He’s not great at defense – so what? Start him in the offensive zone and let him set up on the half-wall on the PP, where he can use his creativity.
Kane doesn’t get the ice time that Geno does; Geno plays 20:50 per game, Kane 19:11. That’s 1:39 a game, or 135 minutes of extra ice.
Yes, Kane is sheltered, but remember that those stats aren’t adjusted for how often the team starts in the opponent’s end – the Blackhawks were there far more often than any other team in hockey, it makes sense to put out your most dangerous forward, no?
Geno also had a 9.68 on-ice shooting percentage this year, which still ranks him quite highly in the league. In years past, however, he’s lead the league with 13.6 and been 12th with an 11.95. I’d say his true talent lies somewhere in the mid-10s, but he’s overproduced based on what looks to me like luck to-date in his career.
Kane’s on-ice S% goes 9.68 in 2007, his Calder-winning rookie season, 7.64 in his sophomore season, in which he still scored over a point-per-game, then 8.95 in 2008, in which he still managed 88 points.
Forwards drive some of their on-ice shooting percentage, but there’s still a heaping helping of luck in there, too. While Malkin looks like he’s better at driving that stat, I’ll bet Kane has much better looking totals less some bad bounces, since, as you note, his teammates have been quite strong.

I think you make some good points, but the idea I was getting at is that if you switched Malkin with Kane, and made sure Malkin got the same minutes as Kane, I think Geno’s a 120-130 point guy, easy. I know this is all speculation, but with that in mind, I see Geno’s worth over Kane as more significant in the long run than Keith’s over Orpik’s.
Hockey Blogger at Pensburgh.com
And if Kane overperformed his On-S% by 25%, I bet he’d be a 115 point player.
I can’t get to your conclusion about the delta between Kane and Malkin being greater than the delta between Keith and Orpik without seriously underrating Duncan Keith, or seriously overrating Brooks Orpik. We’re talking about the best all-around defender in the league and a 2nd pair guy who hits well, but sometimes gets out of position to do it.
Orpik is a fine player for his role, but he doesn’t even sniff Keith.
Then you have to consider the contractual situation – you have a perennial Norris candidate locked up through 2023 or so, for a cap hit under six million dollars and a productive wing with a cap hit of 6.3 million expiring in 2015, versus a center with a cap hit of 8.7 million expiring in 2014, and a 2nd pair D with a cap hit of 3.75 also expiring in 2014.
So to recap those contracts – 12.45 mil until 2014 for the services of Malkin and Orpik, or 11.84 for Kane and Keith for an extra year, + 8 years after that of Duncan Keith. All numbers via the outrageously good www.capgeek.com, of course.
Since you like GVT, that’d be 41.5 for Keith/Kane and 20.8 for Malkin/Orpik. And the Keith/Kane combo makes less money. For longer.
This is a slam dunk.

Personally I’d take being called a real “douche” over deadwood any day of the week. Deadwood implies worthlessness. At least with “douche” it means I am being thought of in some sort of context albeit negatively, and my impact is great enough to warrant it.
"Let the Rabbits wear glasses"
This is a translation from a language that doesn’t bear all that much resemblance to our own – you may find that if you gave the text to another author, they’d come out with totally different wording for what was said.
And even in that translation, Semin said that Kane was much more interesting than Crosby, not more effective. Crosby is brutally effective, just not quite as flashy or artistic as either Kane or Semin. Both of them are trying for beautiful plays, Crosby pretty regularly makes the high-percentage, effective play that may have been the less artistic option. I’d rather have Crosby 10 days out of 10 and maybe once more in the middle than either of those two players, but there you are.

Crosby is brutally effective, just not quite as flashy or artistic as either Kane or Semin.
I think he’s just as flashy (though it’s impossible to prove), and there are plenty of YouTube videos out there that argue as much. I think the difference is that Crosby isn’t only concerned with offense, whereas Kane and Semin are.
Hockey Blogger at Pensburgh.com
You may be right about Kane, but that’s a mischaracterization of Semin. I think what you’re seeing is that Semin disengages from everything from time-to-time, not just defense. He’s frustratingly inconsistent in his focus. When he decides to play, he’s the best defensive forward on the team; his anticipation is extraordinary.
Only YOU can prevent idiots from commenting!

I’ll give you the nod on this. That characterization of Semin this year sounds eerily similar to a Russian forward on Pittsburgh who struggled a bit as well…

Not so fast - Talbot backs away from his comments
Given the chance to explain himself at Tuesday’s news conference, Talbot downplayed his comments.
“It’s always a big rivalry and whatever you say the other team is not going to like,” Talbot said. "He’s a great player but he’s not fun to play against. What can you say stir up a little intensity? “It was more about on-the-ice stuff than off the ice,” Talbot added. “You hate to play against him. That’s what I meant.”
So, um…you say something stupid, then you lie to cover it up when asked about it. There’s a word for that, I could swear it. If only some wordsmith could help me out here….dulce, dolce, dulcimer…well, it’ll come to me eventually.

To me, someone who was born into a family with a deep military tradition, your signature, while probably meant in jest, is extremely offensive. You see what I just did there? When something meant in a joking or off-hand way is taken out of context, it can be construed in a myriad of ways that are offensive to at least someone. Ten Leonsis linked to a YouTube clip of Ovie dropping Superstar on his blog this morning (or yesterday, or whenever…don’t go on Ted’s Take really). Like that’s supposed to mean something?
If Ted really wanted to make a point, he should’ve posted a video/pic of Ovechkin doing some charity work or something non-douchey. Because he posted the video of him and Max, it almost sounds like Leonsis is saying “oh ok, he’s a douche, but he kicked your ass” to which I would respond with a video of Max’s 2 SCF game 7 goals and a pic of the cup.
I wasn’t following Ted Leonsis too much when Semin shot off about Sid. Did he say something then?
To put it frankly, I don’t give a shit. Semin found out what was so special about Crosby for 7 miserable games in 2009.
Besides, Leonsis lost all credibility to me as an owner when he got too excited and jumped the gun in February with the now infamous “we have arrived” post.
So when's October you ask? Well, here's your answer.
Oh yeah
Puck Daddy has a whole post on DoucheGate now.
His bias shines through so much in that post, it’s not even funny.
Funny because I don’t remember him posting anything about Semin and his “special” comments about Sid.
So when's October you ask? Well, here's your answer.
Kind of getting out of hand if you ask me. But I guess it’s to be expected this time of year.
Follow the Penguins on SBN @ Pensburgh.com and twitter.
Oh, completely out of hand. But it is July, and people have nothing better to talk about. A little controversy is always going to get blown out of proportion and now that this Kovalchuk drama has been so protracted, people need something else to talk about.
I lost any respect for Leonsis when he barred people outside Maryland, DC, and Virginia (read: Pens’ fans) from purchasing tickets to the 2009 2nd round playoff games at the Verizon Center. And then he posted some rubbish about Ovie (who I do like, by the way) not knowing his own strength (what is he, Chara tall and 300 pounds?) when he boarded Brian Campbell and got ejected and suspended. Guess he didn’t know his own strength when he kneed Gonchar in Game 3 either. I think Leonsis is a huge douche, though I think Boudreau takes the bakery in the douchiness stakes.
As for Puck Daddy, Greg is a huge Ovie and Devils fan. His bias is pretty ridiculous but what to do? I still read his blog and enjoy it a lot of times.
Sorry, double-posting. Ha ha, February…I know our guys went out the round after, and to the same team, but at least they won the Cup the year before. The Caps can at least be grateful to the Bruins in the choke stakes. They held the record this off-season until the Bruins threw away 2 3-0 leads to go out to the Flyers.
You guys do realise that Ovie and co. are going to the Stanley Cup Final next year, right? The loser past 3 Finals also happened to be the visiting team at the Winter Classic. I, like any hockey fan, figured this out long before NBC did but I see everyone is now repeating it on TV. Maybe Leonsis and that twit Boudreau will actually have the (almost) last laugh this year.
Boudreau went to my high school :S
At least they’ll lose in the Cup finals, we all know how that feels :)
What would we have to do to get Crosby on the Leafs...?
Wishful thinking never ends in Leaf Nation. For now, Go Leafs! (and Pens!)
According to recent history, that is.
They’ll still more than likely have to go through us to get there in April/May.
With the year I’m expecting Sid to have and the bounce back year Malkin is bound to have AND our new found D, we are going to be awfully hard to beat.
So when's October you ask? Well, here's your answer.
The Caps can at least be grateful to the Bruins in the choke stakes.
No way. The Caps loss was still the biggest choke. The Flyers-Bruins series looked like it was going to go bad for a while, but, in reality, it was just two evenly matched teams all along.
A #1 seed (that won the league/division by a long shot) taken down by a #8 seed? Losing 3 games in a row after taking a 3-1 series lead?
Huge choke.
So when's October you ask? Well, here's your answer.
Point taken. I guess it might have been worse than the Sharks’ choke the previous year. Anaheim has a great team while I can’t say that overall about Montreal (then again, it is sour grapes. My Cammalleri tee is en route to Goodwill anyway).

How about losing 4 in a row and losing the final game after being up 3-0? That’s a bigger choke, in all honesty.
That’s not saying the Caps choked in epic fashion, they did, but the B’s managed to out-do them both in macro and in micro.

I wonder what the chances of the Flyers winning were after game 3, and then being down 3-0 in game 7. Million to one? Or is that too high?
Hockey Blogger at Pensburgh.com
I have no idea what the actual odds are, but they ain’t pretty. You couldn’t have convinced me to lay money on anything outside of totally outrageous odds on the Flyers after Game Three.

I personally figured that the Flyers were going to come back. To be honest, I didn’t expect the Bruins to take a 3-0 series lead and even when they did, I figured the Flyers would tie it and take the 7th. When I said that to a couple of friends, they laughed in my face because they figured the Flyers were history.
Yeah, but no one really thought the Bruins had a real shot at the Cup this year (except maybe Bruins fans?).
Shero gets an A. Burkie gets a checkmark.
That’s my point.
The supposed Cup favorite had their foot on the throats of the #8 seed and they couldn’t finish them.
Not two pretty evenly matched teams dog fighting it out.
So when's October you ask? Well, here's your answer.
Reminds me of when Ovie pushed Campbell into the boards (and injured him), and Pierre McGuired wouldn’t stop ranting about how the hit “was a testament of Ovechkin’s overall strength.. amazing” (actual words.. I did a project on violence in the NHL and used that clip as an example)
What would we have to do to get Crosby on the Leafs...?
Wishful thinking never ends in Leaf Nation. For now, Go Leafs! (and Pens!)
Any dumb ass can push an unsuspecting player into the boards because that player doesn’t have time to brace himself.
In my opinion, that play wasn’t dirty, it was Ovechkin simply being too aggressive. He’s lucky he only got 3 games because you just can’t push a guy into the boards like that.
So when's October you ask? Well, here's your answer.
As for Puck Daddy, Greg is a huge Ovie and Devils fan. His bias is pretty ridiculous but what to do? I still read his blog and enjoy it a lot of times.
I know that, but you’d think he’d at least try to hide the bias considering he’s posting on an NHL blog and not a Caps or Devils blog.
The thing that bothers me is his bias for Ovie leads to his hate for Sid. He doesn’t seem to understand that it’s ok to like both.
So when's October you ask? Well, here's your answer.
PensFan, as per your comments about us being hard to beat, your lips to God’s ears, please. I am also trying not to get too overconfident, but then I am a pessimist by nature, but I thought I was going to cry when I found out we got Zbynek Michalek by 1 pm (tears of joy of course). And then Paul Martin by the late afternoon. So I have high hopes for our boys. That coupled with a strategy to beat the trap.
As for the Sid or Ovie debate, I know we discussed it being possible to be a fan of both but some people don’t understand the concept. As for Greg, yeah, I take what he says with a grain of salt anyway. Though he did stick up for Sid during that handshake line non-controversy last year.

Ugh, I always remember to say something once I have posted. Sorry guys.
Another thing I remember was Ovechkin kneeing Tim Gleason, or attempting to, at the start of the season and injuring himself. Maybe if he falls into the boards or is pushed (not that I would wish it on anyone), he will stop. That incident with Gleason certainly stopped his knee-on-knee play.
by silvsiara on Jul 28, 2010 5:18 PM EDT via mobile up reply actions
I remember that. Everyone felt so bad for poor little Ovie hurting himself
What would we have to do to get Crosby on the Leafs...?
Wishful thinking never ends in Leaf Nation. For now, Go Leafs! (and Pens!)
I know! And the kicker is, Gleason came back after a while to take his shifts. But yes, everyone was talking about the injury and I am thinking, he did it to himself trying to injure Gleason. I love Ovie but even I can admit the guy is a total d-bag. But I guess that is part of his charm, at least to me.
by silvsiara on Jul 28, 2010 5:43 PM EDT via mobile up reply actions
The problem is that according to many of the Caps and their fans, Ovechkin has to play that “borderline reckless” style in order to be successful. I say bull shit. The guy simply goes over the edge sometimes and has to control that if never wants to serve a suspension again.
I think you’re right though. Don Cherry has said for years that someone from the opposing team is going to knock him the eff out one of these days.
So when's October you ask? Well, here's your answer.
I love how Don Cherry randomly decided to go from Sid hater to Sid fan out of nowhere.
It seems like his opnion of Sid is based on his mood swings
What would we have to do to get Crosby on the Leafs...?
Wishful thinking never ends in Leaf Nation. For now, Go Leafs! (and Pens!)
I think it’s more that he’s a media personality, and thus he goes with what the media is currently spewing. At the time, the media was tearing down Crosby (after they’d built him up) and hyping Ovechkin. Now they’re back to hyping Crosby and are tearing down Ovechkin.

Someone is going to clock him before Matt Bradley has a chance to skate over from the bench and take punches meant for Ovie. Like I said, am a big Ovie fan but he is a douche.
As for Don Cherry, I switched him off during the playoffs and thanks to my soon-to-happen subscription to NHL Centre Ice, I hopefully won’t have to see him for a long time.

Lucky, I have to watch him every Saturday during Leafs games.

Yup, I know the feeling all too well. As my sister and I are going to be living together and thus I shall be saving on rent, I have decided to bite the proverbial bullet and spend on Centre Ice. I watched 95% of the Pens games online last year thanks to feeds and I would rather just spend the money and get the package. A friend of mine has it and he’s always telling me how wonderful it is. I do like Ron Maclean but I am over Grapes.

Well, you don’t necessarily have to watch him but it’s kinda hard considering he takes up most of the intermission.
So when's October you ask? Well, here's your answer.
He does and it’s hard to avoid him. So I figure why not avoid him altogether? I will shed a tear next season though when HNIC starts and it’s Toews lifting the Cup. It was nice seeing Sid from October to June.
Ah, well I have a rather large TV and as my sister is moving in with me and paying half the rent, we figured we may as well. I did consider getting it online last year.
by silvsiara on Jul 28, 2010 9:13 PM EDT via mobile up reply actions
And I just contradicted myself. I will probably still watch the opening of HNIC before I change the channel. To be honest, I always thought Grapes was obnoxious but he never really bothered me. And then during the playoffs, I went off him. Mind you, I went off CBC in general. Still haven’t gone back to watching RDS (might be too soon, ha ha).

I am also trying not to get too overconfident
I realize that you bascially agreed with what I said, but I don’t think that my comments are too overconfident.
I’ve come to expect great things from this organization and I think it’s very possible for us to be the best team in the league this year, especially with two world class players and a new and improved defense. Although, that’s just the regular season. As long as we make the playoffs, I’m happy. Once we’re there, that’s when I expect the best to come out of everyone and not just the guys that are expected to be than man every single night.
So when's October you ask? Well, here's your answer.
It’s true, the main thing is to get to the playoffs, and that’s where everything starts.
Unless of course you’re playing for a President’s trophy and a Richard/Art Ross.
What would we have to do to get Crosby on the Leafs...?
Wishful thinking never ends in Leaf Nation. For now, Go Leafs! (and Pens!)
Oh I do agree with you. I just happen to be the worst pessimist I know and I am too superstitious to tempt fate. When a lot of people I know said the Pens were going to sweep the Habs this year, I was the only one saying the Habs would win. Last year, I wanted to kick myself when the Wings took a 2-0 lead because I really thought they were going to beat the Pens again. Sigh…don’t mind me. I am hopeful the longer summer will do the entire team some good. And again, I hope Disco Dan is working on a strategy to beat the trap. Anyway, yes, this is a classy organization and we fans are very fortunate. Here’s hoping next season is going to be everything I think it could be.
by silvsiara on Jul 28, 2010 7:33 PM EDT via mobile up reply actions
The biggest weakness the Pens had was their D-Corps, which was addressed very nicely with Martin and Michalek, two players I’m quite high on. They didn’t have an issue scoring goals last season, I don’t think they’ll have an issue this year, either.
The Pens are pretty clearly the team to beat coming out of the EC – there are Western teams that are as good, but I’d say the Pens are pretty clearly the class of this conference going into this season.

I think the Caps are just as good. Your core players will continue to get better (which is scary), and if Varlamov finds a rhythm next year, I don’t see how another President’s trophy is out of the picture.
Hockey Blogger at Pensburgh.com
Varly provides pretty solid goaltending when he’s healthy (pretty high ESSV% so far) but he’s not healthy that often.
The Caps shot the lights out this year, almost as badly as the Bruins did the year prior and got phenomenal goaltending from Theodore at ES, well above his career average. They’re coming back to earth in the regular season and barring significant injury, I see them from anywhere from 107-113 points this year. They’ll compete, but there’s no chance they put up 121 points again.
A lot depends on how Alzner and Carlson play this season; if they’re legitimate NHL contributors, then the Caps are going to have a pretty damn good season. If they struggle, my team is in for a bumpy ride.

You guys definitely got lucky (I think the team ES S% was like 10.5%, which is crazy!!), but I still give the Caps a lot of credit. Even if they don’t perform at the level they did this year, I think they’re still on par with the Penguins. Part of that is because there’s a ton of uncertainty surrounding our team, i.e. will Staal and Malkin play with one another? Do we have adequate wingers? How will Martin and Michalek fit into our system?
I’m stoked about the upcoming season, but I think it’s a bit premature to anoint the Penguins the team to beat in the East.
Though this could be some clever reverse psychology…
Hockey Blogger at Pensburgh.com
Part of that ES S% is the system – the Caps generate a lot of shots on rushes that have a higher chance to go in. If you look at the old analysis that Gabe did of expected S% by location for the playoffs, the Caps should have been shooting higher percentages than any other team, but yeah, not 10%.
The other thing I didn’t mention is that after Backstrom, our centers look like this:
2C = Fleischmann or Laich
3C = Laich, Perreault, Johannson
Stop me when I get to a name that makes you confident in the Caps’ strength down the middle. Get to the bottom of the list moving continuously? Good.

I’ll defer to you as the Caps expert, but Brooks Laich isn’t bad, is he? I always thought of him a decent second pivot. I think the reality is that in the salary cap world, you can’t have Backstrom, Green, OV, and Semin and still have room for lots of other high-quality guys. We’ve learned that the hard way.
Hockey Blogger at Pensburgh.com
He’s not real good. He found a home on the second line, but he’s really a third line player who does a lot of hard work, but isn’t especially effective at hockey.
He got a lot of PP time in front of the net with the first unit, which boosted his stats. Check out his ES scoring rates and remind yourself that he spent a good chunk of the year playing with Alex Semin, including the hot streak where Semin scored ~30 points in 14 games.
To borrow from a Japers’ poster you have some familiarity with, he’s willing to go to the tough places on the ice, but he’s not willing to make those places tough. He’s no Mike Knuble, although maybe he could make it there if he works hard.
Pretty decent PKer, though.
