PrintOK, back to English....Happy Birthday, Geno! Our very own Evgeni Malkin turns 24 years young today. I thought I'd take the opportunity to share some of my favorite Geno stuff (videos, pics).

This was the game that, during the second intermission, Malkin bet $25,000 that he could lead the team to victory for a 3-0 deficit. 25k well spent if you ask me. The full length, better quality highlight here.

2009-2010 Season (aka The Learning Experience):
09-10 was a tough year for Geno, but here are some bright spots.
He's not very good in shootouts, but man did this move work and work well. Someone, after the game, said that Geno's "hands are like butter."

Just so I never have to answer this again. I'm from Singapore so whenever you see me online, I'm either sleep deprived or just waking up.
How lucky!
You know, sometimes I think some people take for granted what we have and what we’ve had the opportunity to have. Mario, Jagr, Francis, Sid, Geno…how lucky can we be, as fans, not to just watch this type of player play, but to watch him play, for YEARS, in our city’s uniform?

I delayed my birthday party a week so I could celebrate with Geno (I couldn’t do it next Saturday)

Well, I know this isn’t like a gossip board or anything, but I heard after Alyonka left (the chick Geno was shooting the video with, who I actually thought was very good at her job but that’s beside the point) that she was fired because the organization found out she was close with Tanger.

I’m down with Geno as well, though I’m not sure how anyone would know if he wrote that himself other than Geno and the people who put the ad together.

There’s no way that he wrote that. In fact, there’s no way any human wrote that. All of the letters are the exact same. For example, look at all of the "g"s on that form. They’re all the exact same. It’s a computer font.

Gino is the man, great post Happy Birthday to our #71!
I am new around these parts people :D This is a great site, the community’s awesome and I decided to join in!
A side thought…The Pens should NEVER trade him! He is our #2 best player, and always will be! Many other teams keep 2+ superstars,( I.E. Sedins, OV and Semin, St. Louis and Lecavalier), we better learn from Jags leaving and keep Malkin!

I saw your pictures and was very jealous of how many games you have attended! That’s an impressive collection, and a great idea.
I was watching that game at my girlfriends house and sat 3 inches from the TV. I jumped up and hit my head off the screen when Malkin scored! That was my favorite game of ’09.

Ouch! Hockey really can be a dangerous game.
Looking back, the fact that they won the shootout against Howard was just the icing on the cake considering his ridiculous antics the next time they met.

Not to spoil the party, but the Pens may have to trade him in the future; just not because he was underperforming. It’s a very real possibility that the Pens may not have enough cap room to keep all three centers and it may end up being that Geno will be the odd man out.
So when's October you ask? Well, here's your answer.

Geno’s awesome, but I could see the Pens trading him more easily than trading Sid or Staal. Sid.. well I think it’s fair to say that, being captain and the way everyone loves him and all, he’s almost a lock to be a Penguin for life. So now we’re comparing the likelihood of a Geno trade vs. a Staal trade. Geno, while being more talented, is suceptible to inconstistencies but still gets the Pens a higher return than Staal. I could see the Pens having a struggle of a season, Geno getting injured (like this year) and not bouncing back. I don’t think one bad season will mean the Pens could trade him, but consistent inconsistencies could mean a trade for maybe a talented winger, which the team needs badly. While I don’t doubt that Pittsburgh isn’t good for Geno, it might also help him to play on any of the other 29 teams where he’d be the clear-cut #1 centre.
Knocking on wood like crazy, but it’s within the realm of possibility.

PS. I realise this isn’t what you were talking about PensFan8725, with the cap space, but I think a situation like that is also possible (but cap issues are more likely)

It will be a sad sad day
if they trade Malkin. He is proving himself to be my all time favorite Pens player. I love every time he hits the ice and he always does well for Russia. I hope to the skies that we can keep him for at least 10+ more years.

Great job PensFan! I rec’d this post. As you might guess from my avatar, Malkin is my favorite Penguin!
My favorite on-ice moment: The no-look backhand goal against Cam Ward in the playoffs. Watching that goal, I really felt like no one in the world could have defended him.
Favorite off-ice moment: The interview where he says: “Shoot puck, shoot everybody”. Pensburgh’s own FrankD did a nice collection of Geno learning english here
And on a side note…………I dreamed last night that I was at a party and Geno was there. I wished him happy birthday, congratulated him on winning the Cup, and told him he needed to win another Conn Smythe trophy! Geno was just smiling and laughing.
