Pens sign LW Arron Asham
Contract's one year for $700k.
Hmm....Not what I was expecting.
Don't the Pens already have a forward like Asham in Talbot and Rupp? And to a lesser extent, Godard?

To be fair,
Asham has a really underrated shot.
But yeah, this is a puzzling signing for you guys. I’d think you would try and sign a guy with some upside (maybe re-sign Guerin or maybe Marek Svatos).
I still like Asham, though, so we’ll see.
The sky is the same color wherever you go.
Asham has a really underrated shot.
Rupp has underrated skill with just as much grit and worked quite nicely for us. Even if the best case scenario happens with Asham, I’m not sure why we need another Rupp.
So when's October you ask? Well, here's your answer.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
This is awful, absolutely awful. Underrated shot? Really? This is pathetic signing. I’m a Pens fan first, but altogether big time hockey fan so I watch just about every game (that I can of course with Center Ice). I watch the Flyers a lot because, let’s face it, they’re rivals and it’s good to see what they’re doing. Asham takes more useless Penalties and spends more time on the end of the bench than anybody else. Ok, maybe with one acception, Carcillo, but still…I don’t get this.
I will say this, the Pens NEEDED to get tougher. They had guys that could do the job, but they needed more toughness. This will provide that. I can see them brining Asham in to build on a 4th or 3rd line.
COOKIE-TK-ASHAM or RUPP-TALBOT-ASHAM…either way, I still cannot sell myself.
This has its positive side so I can’t really argue with Shero…still don’t like it.

A Cookie-Superstar-Asham line would be a PUNISHING line. The only problem is the Pens got grit, but they didn’t get size (Asham is 5’11").
So when's October you ask? Well, here's your answer.
Even if they do pull a Rupper, I don’t see why we need another guy like Mike Rupp.

Great Signing, especially at the price. What we need to realise is that any “legitimate” top 6 forward is going to want more than we can afford right now (yes even the likes of Svatos, Stempniak etc). This is a depth signing, anyone that watch the Playoffs this year knows that Asham was an effective player for the Flyers, sure he takes some dumb penalties at times, but he can play the game and fight (unlike Godard). You can never have enough of these types of guys in the playoffs…
"What we need to realise is that any "legitimate" top 6 forward is going to want more than we can afford "
No kidding. I think we all know this and have moved on. We’re not going to get a great forward. Not that worried about. Sid and Geno have been doing fine without any. It’s time to see what these WBS boys can do. They deserve a shot, and now they’re going to get it.
As for top 6 winger, I think we gave up that hope when Michalek and Martin signed.

It’s still a little puzzling to me. I think we all knew that we weren’t going to sign Kovi for $1 million (haha) or anyone even remotely close to being as good as him.
I guess if you’re going to go cheap, might as well add some grit. Still, where the hell is he gonna go? I figured they would’ve signed a center if they did make another signing.
So when's October you ask? Well, here's your answer.
One good thing about this signing...
I was just reading some of the Flyers fan reactions and they don’t like this one bit. They wanted to keep him. That is one thing that will make me happy about this. He can sit up in the box or play some rough games, who cares, one goon is out of Philly so Sid and Geno don’t have to skate against him.

well, i literally said “what?” when i heard about this. at .7 for one year, though, i’m not gonna swear up a storm.
we're not trading jordan staal.
is it a two way deal?
Why are we still signing bottom 6 wingers? Don’t we already have an abundance of those?
Is it October yet?
Just so I never have to answer this again. I'm from Singapore so whenever you see me online, I'm either sleep deprived or just waking up.
Not a two-way deal.
The reason we’re signing bottom 6 wingers is because there are hardly any of them out on the market. And if there were, they aren’t signable at $1 million or less.

I hope GMRS sees something that we don’t…
If it were me, I’d keep the cap flexibility and spring for a trade midway through the season… Then again that’s me…

I remember suggesting when the FA market opened signing Asham and everyone went ballistic too. I don’t think this is a bad move at all, and I like it. Sure we didn’t get a skill guy or whatever, I’m sure there is something else in the works, either Guerin not coming back, Godard being traded, who knows. I like it though.

That’s sorta what I’m thinking. This signing is going to lead to something else.
It was just not what I expected. I didn’t expect a top 6 forward, but I didn’t expect another Rupp or Talbot either.

TOUGHNESS...
Just like you said Stitch, this guy will add toughness and let’s face it, we needed some more muscle. Say all you want fans, this is a role-player signing and as much as I don’t like Asham, I see why he did it. Just wait until he’s in the lineup VS Washing and being a thorn in Ovie’s a$$ and causing chaos in front of Leighton in Philly. I don’t love this, but I certainly don’t hate it.

Love it.
I’m also going to love him kissing Crosby’s ass after probably saying God knows what to him for the past two seasons.

What’s done on the ice, stays on the ice or at least it SHOULD. I’ve done and said nasty things to other players but there’s no hate of the individual, simply hate of the opposing player. That’s why the saying goes; “I hate him, but would love him on my team”.
Asham
was worth at least 1 Milli, good signing by the Pens. The first thing I see is that he allows the pens to bump up players from lower lines ( IE Cooke, Talbot, Staal ) and still have depth.
Not really sure where he will fit exactly… my first thought is 3rd line.
I actually wanted him when the Pens were " shopping ", and they got him! ( Also wanted Michalek badly, and got him too! ) So I am a happy camper!
LETS GO PENS

From what I've been watching on YouTube
Asham seems to be sneaky scorer. Either he sneaks behind the D or he comes out of nowhere to the front of the net.

Was leary of this signing to begin with….but now seeing that we could have had Raffi Torres for a bit more (1 yr/1M), I`m a little disappointed.
I think we really need to get Billy back on a similiar deal to Torres` too.
