Fantasy Hockey

With the new season coming up fantasy hockey is also starting and I am wondering if people are interested in creating a Pensburgh league like last year. So this post is to see if anyone is interested, let me know in the comments if you are and if so what kind of league you want to form.

I am just starting this year with fantasy hocky (or fantasy sports of any kind for that matter), so I don't think I'd be a great commish but I'd try if others don't want that hassle.

I’d be interested!

I prefer Rotisserie leagues but head-to-head can be fun

I’d be in! I have extensive fantasy sports experience but none w/ hockey, so i’ll leave the format up to other people.

I think I organized two leagues last year on Pensburgh. This year it’d be nice to take a roll call again. I have a feeling we’ll have more than 30 people interested.

We could do a rotisserie style and head to head one. I can help out in setting it up if you help.

I personally always liked rotisserie for hockey….Football on the other hand was made for head to head.

Let me know if you would like my assistance.

I’ll organize/help organize. We should use ESPN, they have the best layout for fantasy hockey. They also allow multiple League Managers in a single league. We could let tehchico LM the rotisserie league (and anyone else who wants to help LM) and I’ll volunteer to be an LM for the H2H league. FrankD, would you like to LM for one or both of the leagues as well?

If you or Chico wants to take the reigns I won’t deny you. I’m crazy busy over the next two weeks or so so I might not be able to set anything up right now.

I would however suggest doing the draft after the preseason. For the sake of injuries, cuts, etc.

I agree, having the draft a week before the season starts should be good.

Auction or Snake draft? I’m willing to do either.

by lampshade9909 on Aug 31, 2010 7:00 PM EDT up reply actions

I can help as LM aswel if you want, and I agree on the draft time. I like the auction system personally, but snake is fine aswel if more people want that.

yea I can set up the Rotisserie. I’ll set one up this week, and hold off on setting the draft till after the preseason.

I’d be interested! I’ve only played head to head but I’d be up for playing rotisserie

I’d be in for any type of league format, I’ve done two years of fantasy hockey (I’ve also been a commish so let me know if one is needed)

I do love fantasy hockey, though I usually just do drafts, so I’m not 100% sure what the rotisserie or head-to-head formats are. Therefore, I think I’m interested.

In head to head match the teams will be matched against each other, the matched up teams get points in categories such as goals assists, PP goals, +- , W for goaltenders etc. The team with the most points in any given categorie gets a win for that categorie, the team with the most wins wins the match up, match up’s are usually for 1 week.

In a rotissary league the teams are ranked league wide for each categorie the team with the most points in a categorie gets as many points as there are teams in the league. the team with the lowest points in that categorie gets one. if two teams are tied they get half of what they would have earned together (ie they get 8 and 9 for the spots they occupie they both get 8.5 points) again the scores are usually tallied once a week.

I’m pretty new to fantasy hockey too, so I’m not sure what rotisserie and head to head leagues are, but I am interested in playing in a Pensburgh league. Looking forward to it :)!!!

Fantasy Hockey

Count me in. I really enjoyed the Pensburgh “B” league last year.

by Tim T on Aug 29, 2010 4:28 PM EDT reply actions

Been thinking of starting a FH team myself but not this year… Still too complicated for my tastes…

Plus I still have a lot on my plate this year… Will have to see how things turn out…

Anyone have a fantasy league for dummies book i could borrow?

Is it October yet?

Hey, don’t worry. I had the same feeling last year, but it turned out to be a lot of fun. It’s not too complicated, you’ll probably get it pretty quickly. If you need help though, you can read the FH rules on yahoo:

I’m in, but I’m probably not going to be pro-active and set it up.

Clarkson University League

My Clarkson University League needs a few recruits. We already have a handful of Pittsburgh natives(including myself). This is our league’s 3rd year- it’s a H2H friendly and competitive league. Details inside links below.

League Home Page:
http://games.espn.go.com/fhl/leagueoffice?leagueId=25537

League Settings Page:
http://games.espn.go.com/fhl/leaguesetup/settings?leagueId=25537

We have 8 returning owners. This year we are expanding from 10 to 12 teams (so we are looking for 4 respectable/friendly owners!). The rosters currently in the league are last years rosters and do not affect this year.

Interest/Questions- You can post in the chat box in our home page, or email me at lampshade9909 at gmail dot com

You’re from Clarkson? So am I!

by Jay32600 on Aug 30, 2010 2:22 PM EDT up reply actions

Great! What year are you? I graduated in 09. Do you play any sports up there?

by lampshade9909 on Aug 30, 2010 2:46 PM EDT up reply actions

I play club broomball and some D-leauge intramural hockey and basketball….I’m graduating this upcoming may. How about you?

by Jay32600 on Aug 30, 2010 3:54 PM EDT up reply actions

Invite sent! Check your spam folder if you don’t see it.

Broomball looked fun, Pennsylvanians never played that sport growing up, haha. Have fun with your last year! And good luck finding employment/grad school. It’s never to early to start your search.

I played on the club hockey team for 1 year and played some junior B for 2 years just over the boarder. I tried out for Clarkson’s team a couple times but Dave Leggio was hogging the spotlight in goal haha. He’s signed by Buffalo now! Fun to see Clarkson hockey players go pro.

by lampshade9909 on Aug 31, 2010 1:55 PM EDT up reply actions

Thanks! I’ve already started the grad school search, hopefully that goes well.

Yeah it is cool to see the Clarkson players in the pros. Unfortunately the team has gotten much worse in the past few years.

and I sent you an e-mail….I’d be interested in joining your league if you still have openings.

I sure hope we do fantasy hockey again next year.

I need redemption for my second-place in League A last year.

You do? I do. I was first all season long as then San Jose Shark’d the first round to finish third. What a sad tale.

So when's October you ask? Well, here's your answer.

I've never played either...

But I’d like to give it a shot.

If you still have room, I would love to play again, I know I’m a little late this year.
