Is this déjà vu? Not really. It is true that this slideshow may resemble the first Penguins book that I shared with you, however, that book met an unfortunate end somewhere on the Pennsylvania Turnpike a few weeks ago. While sad, that loss did afford me the opportunity to release a second edition with many improvements that I would have liked to have seen in the first edition had I not been up against an impossible deadline. This time around, rather than constructing the pages on the Walgreens site, I built each page in Picasa, which allowed for a greater level of content control. Also, instead of taking pictures of the book to post, I included the pages in this nifty multimedia slideshow, set to music, which hopefully will distract you from the fact that you're looking at a lot of the same pictures again. Really, though, there are a lot of photos included here that weren't in the last version, and I think the overall improvements to the book made it worth sharing again.

Then maybe we need a post where everybody shares an embarrassing story about something really dumb that they’ve done ;-)

Close enough, I guess.
We went to the burgh a few weeks ago for the open house. I took the book to show to some friends. It must have ended up in the trunk. We stopped for gas in Somerset. We had hit some crazy traffic, so I popped the trunk to get out the map in case we had to bail from the turnpike. Turns out the map was in the back seat, so I never made it to the trunk. Drove off with it still open. It isn’t like it flew wide open or anything. I only knew because I saw the light on the dash. I pulled over a mile up the road, went back and closed it, never imagining anything came out. We got to the hotel and couldn’t find the book. At that point I thought maybe it never even made it into the car, but when we got home the next day it wasn’t in the house either. I can only assume that it was in the trunk and slid out when I drove off (I had it in the box it was delivered in, so if it was on top of everything, it’s conceivable that it could have slid out).
I held out hope that, since it was still in the box with our address on it, someone might happen to find it, not think it was trash, and send it back to us. Crazy, I know. Oh well, live and learn.

I’ve had an embarrassing item of clothing sent to me when I bought a MAF t-shirt a few weeks back… Well, technically the packaging did say Penguins apparel.
Sucks about the book though…
Is it October yet?
Just so I never have to answer this again. I'm from Singapore so whenever you see me online, I'm either sleep deprived or just waking up.
The new one was delivered today. It’s amazing. I can’t stop looking at it.
Kind of curious about this item of clothing…

Breaking News
I just got a call from dairy farmers in Indiana. They found the book, took it home and found my number on the order slip. They’re going to ship it back to me.

that’s awesome PAYD. Now you have 2 books….
Hopefully the wear on the old book isn’t too bad.

I was too shocked when I got the call to think to ask if it was in good shape.

mighty decent of them to give you the call… But I suspect some damage to the book.
It did get lost on the turnpike after all…
but hey… not all doom gloom & cheap perfume. 1) you got it back 2) you got a brand new book!
Is it October yet?

I like your optimism, and here’s some more. They found it right at the travel plaza gas pump where I opened the trunk and drove off without closing it. And like I mentioned, it was still in the box, so it could be in pretty good shape.

And a mildly funny part of the story – I wanted to send them the money for the shipping so I asked if they had heard of paypal. Nope, they don’t have a computer. I shouldn’t have been surprised, but still I thought even dairy farmers would have computers in this day and age to track inventory and production.

I lost a pair of sunglasses on that road. The PA Turnpike is unforgiving.
