Penguins vs. Blue Jackets Open Thread
Jackets Blog: Jackets Cannon
Listen to the game live on WXDX.com.
There's something about the Penguins playing the Blue Jackets in the preseason that irks me. I don't know what it is. They did it last season too and I remember thinking the same thing.
Alls I can say is: please don't get hurt.
Hooks will be at the game checking in live from press row tomorrow. Be sure to check out his updates both on here and on twitter.
Pens lineup after the jump:
Forwards: Craig Adams, Arron Asham, Mike Comrie, Chris Conner, Matt Cooke, Eric Godard, Nick Johnson, Dustin Jeffrey, Chris Kunitz, Mark Letestu, Mike Rupp, and Max Talbot.
Defense: Robert Bortuzzo, Simon Despres, Deryk Engelland, Alex Goligoski, Ben Lovejoy, Paul Martin, and Steve Wagner
Goalies: Brent Johnson and John Curry.

Same. BTW i used to be WBSPensFan297187. I switched my name so I could add my stories to my resume. I’m going to be covering WBS this season. Very Excited!
Oh, hey, cool. Good to see you again, WBS!

Good to see the die-hards in the preseason thread :)
Or the hockey addicts who desperately need their fix. (the first sounds better so I’m going with that)
Hey, I like that first one too. Sounds better than “losers who’ve been here all Summer”.

yes it is and yes it is…
I’m just waiting for the season proper to start so I can start watching games again… not patching radio feeds and chasing unreliable video feeds…

My interest is to see the WBS boys play, especially Letestu, Lovejoy (should make NHL top 6), Bortuzzo and Despres.
You probably won’t like to hear this, but I’m a Hershey Bears fan.

lol. I live in Hershey, but yea Hershey has lost most of their depth on d with Alzner and Carlson probably playing for Washington this year. WB/S has signed great d-men, so Bears vs. WBS games may actually be interesting this year haha.

I’m sticking with you guys again (I think I’ll stay with the formula of watching Leafs game/Pensburgh GDT to update on Pens game when both are on the same day)
So what’s happening?
PS. We’re playing the Flyers last night and tonight, and BillyG Guerin scored on us He also scored in OT, but Army won the game for us :) Army is therefore confirmed as the cooler ex-Pen
PPS. Sid was just on LeafsTV :)
PPPS. Any update on Sid’s injury?

how Dion will be a great captain and he has a ton of pressure on him in TO.
It was pretty cool because it was a video tribute to Phaneuf, and all of a sudden I hear Sid’s voice. I thought I was hallucinating but I looked up and there he was :D
There was a video of Army talking about himself and his career. He had some pretty good things to say about Sid :)

Letestu’s got more minutes than guys like Comrie, Talbot, and Cooke.
I’d say this guy is on his way to making the team.
When will the season finally start, you ask? Well, here's your (new and improved) answer.
will be tough for him to make the team but they are going to give him a good look. One of my favorite WBS guys from last year
Honestly, if they keep giving him ice time and he keep thriving, I don’t think it will be tough for him.
When will the season finally start, you ask? Well, here's your (new and improved) answer.
I dont disagree
He might make the team in Staal’s place to start the season but I don’t see him sticking around as a 13th forward. But who knows its early. Rooting for him though!
Maybe not.
TK better step up if he wants his spot, though. That’s who might end up being shooed away to make room for Test Tube.

Nope…
Seems like they’re testing Kunitz and Comrie. Possibly to see if they have chemistry. I think that Comrie will be put on Sid’s line once Staalsy comes back.
So although Sid isn’t playing, there could be some major implications for his line mates.
When will the season finally start, you ask? Well, here's your (new and improved) answer.
I think they’re also playing Comrie on wing this game, non?
Leafs fan living large in the Pitt and pretending like the drought is over.
Yes, which could be to see how he does on the wing with Kunitz.

I still think he’s capable of being better defensively than Sarge… But growing pains are a pain to watch

I get that but I don’t buy it as an excuse…
Considering he’s one of the senior Pens in this game, I’d expect some semblance of consistency. This ain’t the minors anymore… You can’t be a one-trick pony here. I don’t expect him to win the Norris but at least be self-aware on the ice…

My reasoning is that in the cold, you can always put on more layers. When you’re hot, there’s a limit to what you can take off (plus when you reach that limit and are still hot, what do you do?)
Plus winter means snow, hot chocolate, and this sport called hockey :)

You know it! I forget what you’re studying. Something with numbers … ?

Political science. I’m the quantitative empirical type (not a theorist) so yes there are numbers. :)
Got it :) Heh … I’m the game theory/rationality theory type of philosopher — so all sorts of numbers are involved for me as well.

My philosophy teacher said context is the answer to everything
"Hockey captures the essence of Canadian experience... hockey is the chance of life, and an affirmation that despite the deathly chill of winter we are alive." - Stephen Leacock.
If only we knew how to define “context”. That’s the real question!

Ok so I bought a legal note pad so I could jot down my thoughts on the Pens for every game this season.
So I start writing down my expectations and my projected lines, and guess the city who manufactures my new, shiny legal pad?
Pittsburgh, PA. Oh yeah, right on the corner of the pad.

The way us natives say it: “Toranno”/“Torana”
It’s easy to spot an tourist or immigrant, they usually pronounce the 2nd ‘t’

I do that too…

Interesting read, TonyAndrock.
I did have a little trouble with this statement, though:
The biggest question mark for the Lions is their rushing attack.
It’s a question mark, for sure, but I think Bolden is a bigger one still. Frankly, I can’t see him making it through the year without ceding the job to Newsome at some point, at least temporarily.
Still, I think we can handle Temple. Too much defense.

I see it differently
I think the reason for Bolden’s miscues are caused by the lack of a rushing attack. If the running game can get going I believe it will take alot of pressure off Bolden. It looks like he thinks he has to make all the palys and it shouldnt be that way.
You guys remember this?
Awesome game.
Hope to see this Gogo this season.
