The Penguins hit the halfway mark of the preseason tonight as they host the Columbus Blue Jackets tonight at 7 ET. Our good friend Hooks Orpik is going to be checking in throughout the night from press row at the Consol Energy Center, so if you aren't following him already on twitter you may want to consider doing so. You can also add the official Pensburgh twitter account while you're at it.
For those who had their concerns following Sid's hip "injury" in the first preseason game against the Red Wings, rest assured all is well and he will be on the ice tonight against the Blue Jackets, according to the Penguins' web site. Dan Bylsma admitted in that same article that the decision to remove Sid from the ice was more a precautionary move than anything else. While I'm sure he's feeling up to the task tonight and for the remainder of the preseason, I still don't really see the sense in him playing in a preseason, but maybe that's just me.

I saw this post and was excited because I thought the game would be starting soon. And then I checked the time :(
Good to hear Sid will be back :) I think he needs to play in the preseason for the same reasons anyone else does. Sure, Comrie or Letestu(?) won’t be stealing his roster spot anytime soon, but it’s better that he gets back into the swing of things now rather than during the season, especially since he hasn’t skated as much this summer than in previous years

BTW Leafer87, is LeafsTV pay-per-view ? And how much is it ?
I thought I seen where it was like $12 a game. Thats sounds like a lot of money for 1 game when you can basically get the whole NHL season (Center Ice) for about $170. Just curious.
LeafsTV usually comes in a hockey/sports package, so yeah you have to pay for it. But since it’s in a sports package I don’t know how much the price is per game. $12 doesn’t seem like a lot when you have to pay hundreds of dollars per game to see it live ;) Trust me, lots of people (including me) would pay $12 per days

I get over 1000 total games for $170.
Excuse me while I do the math……
……. that’s like .17 cents a game.
Now I know you can only watch 1 game at a time, but even if you get it (C.I.) for 1 team (like me-the Pens) it still come out to , math again……
……$2.07 a game with the abiliity to watch a late game (usaually) when the Pens game is over and also watch games on the nights that the Pens are off.
What I’m saying is- hockey every night (with double headers half the time) for 6 months straight at , more math…..
……about $1 a night as oposed to $12 a game.. You get my point, right?
I get Leafs TV as part of a sports package. That plus a family package and the regular plan is only 82 per month so it’s quite reasonable as a package (with Rogers if you are in the Toronto area) Bell also offers it now, though I’m not sure if it is separate or part of a package.
Should we consider the posting of the game thread so early a trend? or it’s just by accident?

Nah I figured I’d toss it up early and kind of have it double over as a preview. During the regular season we’ll probably have preview and thread in separate posts, but there’s not much to really distinguish one from the other by the time the game rolls around.

Some marketting firm is putting on a job fair at the arena tonight and they gave away 3500 pairs of tickets to the game. Had to have a valid .edu email addy and blah blah blah.

He was supposedly part of the "Black Sox".
In 1919, nine players (I believe) for the Chicago White Sox were paid by sports gamblers to throw the World Series to the Cincinnati Reds, which they successfully did. Upon being caught, all nine were permanently banned from organized baseball. I’ve heard it be insinuated that Jackson was framed, however, and that he actually didn’t take the money or throw the Series.

If you don’t mind me asking, why then?
At my old school, our classes had a couple of grades smushed together. People skipped grades often since we usually ended up doing the same work as the older grades. When I was in gr 5, most of my friends were a year older than me and going to the gr 7-8 class. There also weren’t any girls who would be in gr 6 that year, so my teacher asked me if I wanted to skip and I said yes.

MAF looked pretty good,
Nice to see Geno show some emotion.
Tanger looked great as did Despres, and Michalek.
Sid played good D today – he looks faster if that’s possible.
Tangradi looked good.

Just got back from the game
Hopefully post some pics tomorrow.
My thoughts? First, jesus christ what an amazing arena.
Second, I hope I never see Potter in a Pens jersey again. Absolutely terrible.
Third, Geno kicked Rick Nash’s ass.
Our crappy lucky team is better than your good unlucky team.
Was he the one who gave the puck away along the boards in his own zone that lead to the only Columbus goal?
