The Stanley Cup champion Chicago Blackhawks come to town tonight to take on the Pens at 7 p.m. ET. It's games like this where I worry that announcers and pundits will try and hype it up as a potential 2011 Finals matchup, or perhaps even the changing of the guard from the young Penguins to the young Blackhawks. Of and of course, there will be the endless comparisons as to how the Blackhawks followed the Penguins' game plan, which isn't accurate at all because at least the Pens stayed moderately within/near the salary cap.
But whatever. It's another preseason game and a chance for us to watch a little hockey in between a lot of fights (most likely). Crosby's not in the lineup tonight but Geno is. Also sitting this one out is Marc-Andre Fleury, Brooks Orpik and Pascal Dupuis. Full lineup after the jump.

Leafer, I hearing (& seeing) some good things about the Leafs for this coming season. The Versteeg, Kessel-Bozak line is gettig some great reviews.

The Kessel-Bozak-Kulemin line had some great chemistry last year, but you’re right Versteeg fit right in last game. He (Versteeg) has also played really well with Army too :)

Well, to be fair. I know, know, they fuckin suck, but the Pirates are playing. Even the Pirates games don’t matter anymore, they still count…in a way.

The only reason the CW got that game with the Jackets was because the Pens added that game themselves, so they weren’t under contract with FSN.

And that’s another good point — fans want to see the highlights. We’ll take ANY video of our team after long months of deprivation. But they haven’t taken advantage of preseason at all. This would be a great time to build hype.
On the contrary, it’s not like the Pens really need to build hype. They already know that every single game this year is going to be pretty much sold out.
Still, I’d like them to reward their loyal fans.

Selling out isn’t the only reason to build hype though… people spend money on the team in many other ways, and getting people excited early would help the team. It would also help WBS.
Along with the Leafs and the Habs, the Pens have sold the most merchandise over the past few years.
Still, I want highlights and I want live games just as much as you do.
The bottom line is: the Pens know what they have and they know that their fans know what they have – a SC contender.

Haha you’re determined to disagree with everything I say tonight, aren’t you. Selling a lot of crap doesn’t mean they wouldn’t like selling even more crap, which would happen with better preseason coverage. But it’s also true that they won’t suffer from being lazy about it.
I’m not determined to disagree with you, I just want you to understand that from a business standpoint, all this little stuff isn’t a necessity. The Pens know what they have.
Who knows. The Pens may not even be allowed to post highlights unless they’re from FSN…All of the preseason games haven’t been filmed by FSN.
If they post them tonight (an FSN broadcasted game), that’s probably the case.

I like what I saw from Despres on Saturday night
He certainly wasn’t perfect and he’s not NHL ready right now but this kid is going to be special once he develops. He’s got all the skill to be a great two way defenseman.

Versteeg! I went to last night’s game with my sister and he and Phil Kessel are great. I am seriously seeing good things for the Leafs this season.

My goodness Leafer, if I tell you about the ordeal my sister and I went through to secure tickets (via Ticketmaster), you would be shocked (or amused…I can’t decide which myself). Actually, we were supposed to go to Friday’s game but this worked out instead. No Ryan Miller but we got practically the entire Leafs’ line-up, which was fantastic. And there were lots of empty seats around us. But we were entertained.
Ugh. People buying tickets and then not going to the games = >:(

I know! There was this girl sitting a few seats from us and I think she had been stood up. Our row was really empty. And the couple sitting next to my sister got up and left at the second intermission. It was good, the atmosphere was fun and relaxed, and Jordan Leopold played too so that was nice. He even scored. But the Leafs are looking good. And we were pretty entertained.

Ha ha, the love is received. Once the Habs beat the Pens and I was treated to Maxim Lapierre on my TV, I had to avoid RDS and CBC. I rooted heavily for the Flyers in that series, although I would have rooted for anyone against Montreal.
Yeah that didn’t end up as gracefully as I’d intended.
