The first player I can remember really being a fan of is Mario Lemieux. I did a book report on a biography of his in like the 5th grade. Been a Mario & Pens fan ever since.

I lived in Columbus for 5 years and did a summer internship with the Jackets. So I have a soft spot for them. I really root for them to do well because I know how much that community needs/wants the Jackets to succeed. Columbus needs the Jackets, in my opinion.

I live in Northern Alabama, about an hour and 45 minutes from Nashville. I do like the Preds. But just not all that much. Mitch Korn, the Preds’ goalie coach, is one of my good friends and I wouldn’t have had the success as a goalie that I’ve had without him. But Vokoun is no longer there. I really liked him. I like Weber and Tootoo. I just don’t have a really favorite player on the team. But Terry Crisp is the man and I’d listen to him read the phone book lol.

My mom is in love with Mike Modano. So she was majorly bummed when he got traded. She still considers him a Star. So I’ll root for them whenever they play and we’re watching the game. My brother is a Capitals fan, but he’s my little brother so I refuse to tolerate the Caps. I punch him in the arm when we disagree. That’s how it works. haha.

With the exception of Brian Boucher and Mike Knuble. I’ve met Boucher before and he was awesome. I’ve been a fan of his since the beginning. And I know Knuble’s brother’s family. I didn’t mind the Flyers of the late 90’s/early 2000’s, like Primeau, Roenick, Recchi, LeClair, Renberg, Desjardins, Brind’Amour, etc. I actually have a Boucher Flyers jersey signed by a ton of those guys. I don’t have the hatred for them that I have for the new Flyers like Richards, Carter, etc.

I used to really like Brodeur. He has fallen off a bit lately and I can’t really explain why my admiration for him has dropped lol. I don’t really have a problem with Ottawa. I just have this unnatural dislike for them every time the Pens play them. I want the Pens to crush their soul. haha. I like M. Staal and Lundqvist. Avery can suck it. And except for Seguin and Thomas, the majority of the Bruins just piss me off lol.

I’ve been a fan of Ward and E. Staal since ‘06. I like watching the Hawks play. Kane and Toews are guys I like on that team. I’ve always respected the Red Wings. And I only hated them for the ‘08 Finals and the ’09 season. I’ve gone back to not hating them since the Pens beat them haha. I like St. Louis and Stamkos. I like Duchene and O’Reilly. Kesler is a former Buckeye so I like him. Luongo too. And the Sedins seem like nice guys.

My 2nd & 3rd Favorite Teams: Columbus Blue Jackets and Montreal Canadiens

Blue Jackets for the reasons above. Canadiens because of their history. I’m a history nerd who loves hockey so it’s perfect lol.

I realize every fan base (even the Pens fan base) has it’s proverbial bad apples, it just seems there are more out of these teams.

I may like a team vs another team because of a player that I enjoy or an ex Pen I miss(ie Iginla/Whitney/Malone), but overall I am neutral to most teams.

Teams that it all depends on who they’re playing, and if they’re playing each other, then I don’t watch, and only care about because of my fantasy drafts: Thrashers, Sabres, Flames, Hurricanes, Avalanche, Blue Jackets, Stars, Panthers, Kings, Wild, Predators, Coyotes (even though they used to be from Winnipeg), Sharks, Lightening, Canucks.

I am from near Winnipeg. One of my friends is a Stars fan, and I am a Pens fan. We have three friends, one a Flames fan, one a Canucks fan, and one an Oilers fan. They are loyal to a fault for Canadian teams. They cheer for a team over any other team purely because they’re based in Canada. This also extends to other sports: they all cheer for the Raptors and the Blue Jays because of their location (personally, I don’t follow baseball or basketball very closely). My Stars fan friend and I cannot understand this loyalty at all, and our other friends get upset with us for not cheering for the Canadian clubs. To each their own, I suppose, haha!

and Buffalo. Buffalo is alot like the Leafs: I feel sorry for them. But hope they

But really, when Pittsburgh and Vancouver are playing, whoever is playing against
them….can……….suck it. LOL

Absolute favorite team: Penguins – There is no other team when they still playing.

Favorite team when the Pens are either knocked out of the playoffs or not in them: Avalanche – They were one of the best teams when I first started following hockey in the mid-90s, and they also had my favorite non-Penguin of all time at that time: Patrick Roy. I also liked Joe Sakic a lot. Forsberg…not so much.

Hate Hate HATE HATE: Flyers, Capitals, Devils, Rangers, Canadiens, Maple Leafs, Red Wings – Most are obvious because of history with the Pens, beating the Pens in the playoffs, etc. The Maple Leafs are mostly there because their fans are obnoxious when they come to Pens games. The Islanders would probably be there if I had been following the Pens more closely in the 92-93 season, or if they had been at all relevant since then.

Teams I would root for over teams other than the Pens or Avalanche: Blackhawks, Blue Jackets, Thrashers, Wild, Kings – I’m not sure I have any reason other than I generally like their jerseys more than others.

All other teams I don’t care much about unless they are fighting the Pens in the standings or fighting individual Pens for awards or whatnot.
