Around SBN: What If This Is It For The Celtics? End Of An Era Looming

Shawn Rine was the first credible source to break the roster move which will likely become official early on 12/1

Despres had posted on his FB page earlier that he had been recaled. Picard was an Emergency Callup due to Letang/Michalek injuries and should not face Waivers

Interesting. I haven’t heard much about him from WBS, although I wasn’t looking for news on him. Looking forward to seeing the big man debut.

I don’t get it, Captain Picard played pretty well against the rangers? Am I missing something? Is the only reason for him getting sent back because he is under the “emergency” call-up and not subject to waivers, so RayRay wanted to replace him with someone who was NOT subject to waivers? Can anyone clarify?

btw, I hate responding to my own posts but there shouldn’t have been a question mark after the first sentence…whoops

I would think waivers may have played a part. I believe Picard should have been shielded 10 games or 30 days from his call-up, but maybe that clock started his last time around and not this most recent re-call. Not quite sure how it works.

Or maybe the team just wanted to get Despres into a NHL game so he could see the speed and pace. He has played well and getting his NHL debut is probably good for his development.

I highly doubt it has anything to do with PIcard’s performance. He hasn’t been asked to do that much in the NHL, but he’s played very well when called upon.

Yeah I figured it was a matter of the number of games played or days on the roster for Picard, and Shero wanting to be able to recall him later in the season without Picard needing to go through waivers at that time. As far as I know the GMs in the league do a lot of this micromanagement, instead of using all 10 games at once they like to spread it out over the course of the season. But you can be sure the kid earned the chance, too, or they wouldn’t bring him up to the big league.
