I think the thought behind the game misconduct was that Hamonic targeted Orpik’s head (a thought that was reinforced by Orpik’s bloody face). Not saying that was the correct call, just trying to explain what the refs may have been thinking there.

okay if that’s the call, can hockey take a page from college bball? In that sport, whenever there’s a potential flagrant for elbow to the head, they go to replay. A game misconduct is a HUGE penalty to issue because you THINK you saw him aiming for the head

Yeah.

This is going to turn into yet another example of how the NHL and the refs are botching this whole “don’t hit the head” thing. While Hamonic looked to have targeted Orpik’s head, he never actually hit it, and yet he’s done for the game. Meanwhile, you have hits like the Fistric one a few weeks ago that don’t receive any penalty on the ice at all.

For the record, we have three good D-men.

One is injured. One of the other two just got kicked out of the game. Thus our freak-out. (Oh and #6, Mike Mottau is so terrible we usually root for our coach to just keep him off the ice as long as possible)

Eaton's out too.

Also he’s been terrible. Not as bad as Mottau, but terrible.

Jurcina is at best okay. Seriously, our bottom 3 are horrendous. (We have four D prospects in the AHL, but three of them are being kept down for “development” – or in other words, to avoid tolling their ELCs).

by GhostWalker40 on Dec 10, 2011 8:45 PM EST up reply actions

You know, those two things are not necessarily opposites.

Seriously dude. You can be the “worst team in the league” (They’re not this year, but let’s say they are) AND the refs can be screwing you in a particular game.

And while I don’t think there’s an intent to screw over the Islanders here, that call essentially did just that.

Correction, ONE of the worst teams in the league, not THE worst and they are again this year.

Just seen more blaming the refs for that 1 call than the fact that they just aren’t that good.

I hate the refs just as much as everyone else, so I’m not saying they don’t suck also but that 1 call isn’t the reason why they are losing.

by GhostWalker40 on Dec 10, 2011 9:07 PM EST up reply actions

It was 3-2 Isles at the time.

I’m not saying that the Isles would’ve won, or even gotten a point out of this game. But that drastically reduced the chance of that occurring.

The Isles were ona good run of play 4-0-2 (3-0-1 of that on the road) and the Penguisn are without Crosby, Staal, etc. The Isles HAD a shot. Not after that call.

In my mind, you kind of point out exactly why you shouldn't complain

You’re playing a team without key players like Crosby, Staal, Letang, and Michalek, and losing Hamonic is the difference in the game? Come on, man.
