Pens recall Jason Williams from WBS
Also, Staal is skating in this morning's practice but no Malkin, Crosby, or Bortuzzo. Not sure what to think about Malkin not skating.

It looks like both Malkin and Staal are game-time decisions.

Yes, somehow I don’t see how this will have the same level of excitement as the traditional Wimgs-Pens rivalry. We are practically playing with a reinforced minor league lineup. It’s getting ridiculous. I feel bad for anyone who payed a full price ticket for this event, and may be the only game they’ll go to this season.

Reminds me of last year’s team, where the Pittsburgh Penguins were basically the Baby Pens of the AHL. Yet, we still find ways to keeps games exciting and play at a high level. Dan Bylsma makes this face at your disapproval of people attending this game (or mostly towards the amount of injuries).

I’m not disapproving of people attending the game. You misinterpreted what I said. Because it is the Wings, and is close to the Holidays, there is a large number of fans that bought this game ticket. For many of them it is probably going to be the only game they attend this season. That’s who I feel sorry for, As far as last year lineup, at least they had Staal, Letang, ZM, and Lovejoy. A significant difference from tonight’s lineup which may only include Staal . In my view there’s no way you can measure yourself against the Wings without all those players. I’m not blaming anyone, it’s just fate. I know that Blysma and the players will do their best. But after all is said and done, there’s a reason why the replacement play in WBS. Usually in any team sport you can add a young guy or 2 to your lineup, even a couple more, but there’s a fine line that you reach where you can’t compete against the A quality.

yes, I think he is better than any of the WBS call ups (at this time) and defensevely better that Niskenen.
The Hockey Dr.
I think he was definitely on a role and finding himself a little more up until he got hurt.

Defensively Better than Niskanen?
Have you even watched any Penguins games this year? Niskanen has been terrific. I know this is a deceiving stat, but he was +12 last I checked. He has been very reliable.

yeah, he’s +12 with 9 points this season. Best +/- on the team (I know I know I know).
The only defensemen who have struggled this year (imho) are the callups Bortuzzo and Picard, who haven’t even been terrible, they’ve just been average.

Obviously the one who is reading stats, but not watching is you. In just about every game he is caught flat footed, and is a goal against or a penalty.
The Hockey Dr.
lol. What you just said makes no sense. If he was getting caught “flat footed” every game and that resulted in goals, then he wouldn’t be +12. Unless you think he gets caught flat footed, then immediately skates off the ice!!! He’s a tricky one, that Matt Niskanen!
Anyway, you have a right to your opinion. It’s not what I see, but whatever.

If Malkin and Staal can’t go, I might just skip watching this one. Playing Detroit without all of our centers and half our defense is not a good recipe for success.
And I love watching these games too.
