Honestly, what I can’t believe is that the refs made the correct call there. Generally, when you see a guy take a stick in the face and go down, you call the opposing team of the cut player.

He didn't originally intend to hit Foligno with the knee, yeah.
But when he realizes he’s going to miss Foligno with the shoulder, you can see him throw his leg out to try to catch Foligno with it. It wasn’t a flagrantly dirty play, but it sure as heck wasn’t clean.
