It’s unfortunate, especially when you take the time to consider the fact that the Penguins are missing two of their top four defensemen and lost one of their regular third pair d-man when Deryk Engelland went down last game with a lower body injury, so they are now forced to ice three AHL defensemen. Expect Orpik and Martin to log close to thirty minutes of ice time for however long this lasts.
Did you guys see the post over on Broad Street Hockey comparing Claude Giroux to Sidney Crosby? Apparently some Flyers fans think he’s on the same level as Sid.
Nope. And apparently Giroux is better by virtue of the fact that he only makes about $3.75 million to Crosby’s $8.7 million, which apparently makes him more ‘cost effective’ than Crosby. This, of course, is ignoring the fact that if Giroux continues to produce at or around the same level as he has thus far this season the Flyers will have to shell out big bucks to keep him when his contract comes up for renewal.

Don’t get me wrong. I think Giroux is an amazing hockey player. I actually wish he wasn’t a Flyer because then I would feel less guilty about actually sort of liking him. He’s young and talented and if he continues to improve the way he has there is no doubt in my mind that he’ll eventually become one of the best centers in the league. He’s tied with Phil Kessel for the league lead in points. That being said, I don’t think there he’s in the same league as Crosby by virtue of the fact that no one else is either. Crosby is in a league of his own. He’s the best player in the game. And low cap hit or not, I would still take Crosby over Giroux every day of the week and twice on Sunday.
So, let’s not take offensive-zone penalties? Please?

Oh. I saw Steve Dangle’s recaps of those games over on YouTube. He’s kind of funny.
(And I feel kind of bad because I sort of kind of love the Bruins. I attached my bandwagon to them after the Penguins were knocked out of the playoffs last year and I was so happy when they beat Vancouver and won the Cup and my infatuation has sort of carried over into this season as well.)
haha I cheered for them last year too, and sorta stopped hating them for beating the Nucks. But then this year happened, and.. yeah.
But the Leafs are doing so well this year! At least you can root for them with pride. The Devils and I, however, are in the middle of a messy divorce. I’m keeping the house and the kid, and they can have their empty promises and rumors of bankruptcy. (Of course, a winning streak would do wonders to win back my affections….)
Which half? I kind of hate them all right now, especially Zach “I only have sixteen points in 25 games and I’m a -10 on the season but still think I can command a $8 million salary at the NHL level because I scored 45 goals only once in my career” Parise. Except the Adams – Larsson and Henrique. I love them. They can stay. And I’ll always love Marty, because he’s, well, Marty. It’s kind of hard to grow up a Devils fan and not love Marty.
haha I’ve hated the Devils for a long long long time (actually since whatever season it was in which Cam Janssen concussed Kaberle and they lost vs the Isles to knock us out of playoff contention). And yes I love Parise (he’s pretty :P) and of course, Brodeur. It’s pretty hard to grow up a Canadian hockey fan and not love Marty too haha
Have you seen Adam Henrique? He’s even prettier than Parise. And he has more points in less games.
But in all seriousness, if you guys beat the Rangers tonight I will consider sending both you and the Leafs players of your choice contraband homemade Christmas goodies including gingerbread cookies and mini cheesecakes.

The Bruins play a little dirty, which I don’t like, but they stick up for each other, and dammit I respect that.
Then I wish every team I root for would play as dirty as the Bruins in the hopes that they would be half as good as Boston is.

Yeah, the Bruins are really getting their forecheck going, and all four Pens’ lines are getting hemmed in their own zone as a result. The Bruins have done a great job of taking away the skill factor of the Pens (other than the 5-on-3 they handed us).

That’s not the problem here. This is just a case of the Bruins playing top-class hockey and the Pens not matching them. Maybe it’s the physicality that the Pens are having trouble matching right now.

The Pens squandered a bunch of good opportunities, including two 5-on-3s, I think. Combine that with some timely goal scoring by the Bruins third and fourth liners and good team defense and the great goaltending of Tim Thomas, and you’re kind of thankful the Penguins are only down by two.

I kind of don’t understand how Bob Errey can sit there and say Daniel Paille shouldn’t be wearing a cage because he’s not injured. Homeboy took a slap shot to the face a little less than a month ago and got his nose broken. It’s probably still broken. If that isn’t a facial injury that warrants the use of a cage then I really don’t know what is.
Errey was probally lit when he said that so pay to mind to him.

I tried this againist Colorado and was forced to listen to the VS announcers because the TV was lagging behind the radio. I guess it depends on the broadcast for example I was watching the Steelers game yesturday and the radio lagged behind the TV by like 10 seconds so I was forced to listen to Nantz and Simms yesturday, ugh.

I guess I just kind of assumed that almost everyone, including Errey, had seen the footage of Paille getting tagged in the face with that puck, or at least the pictures of his face a day or two after it happened. It’s kind of hard to forget something like that.
No one should be trashing a guy for wearing a cage no matter what. If a guy wants to extra protection on his face, that’s totally cool. I thought we’ve seen enough blasts to the face that visors would finally be mandatory…

I tend to be of the school of thought that it’s a personal choice. I’m all for making it mandatory for the kids, but these men are full grown adults. If they don’t want to wear a visor then that is their own prerogative. At the same time, they have to accept the fact that they might be involved in an accident that could result in head injuries or permanent loss of vision.
Great play by Bortuzzo on that 2-on-1 down low in the Pens’ zone. By preventing that pass from getting through, he probably saved a goal, and the Pens generated a couple good chances on Thomas to boot.
