Bylsma Fined, Suspended (Pending Review)
Just when you thought it couldn't get any worse it ~ uhh ~ does.
Comments
To be clear,
Bylsma is suspended pending review by Bettman and his peeps. The idea is that it guarantees a review of the situation. All things considered, it is likely that this suspension will be lifted tomorrow, and Bylsma will not miss any actual games. At least not as a result of Rule 70.10, which is the one about players leaving the bench, and the rule at work here. Even if the NHL wants to do some example-setting, it’s difficult to see how they could justify doing it here.
However, there is room for supplementary discipline to be handed out to players and/or coaches as a result of the game in general, and as a result of other specific incidents. If the NHL does decide to make an example of PIT/NYI, and if they decide to do it by way of the coaches, then my guess is that both coaches face discipline, and not just one of them.
My feet are wet.
In my rush to post, I stupidly left that part out of the title. Thanks for clarifying. It has been updated.

Yeah, I’m just waiting on official word myself. At least with Cooke we all pretty much knew it was coming. Considering how ridiculous yesterday’s game was, I can’t even say we can expect to see this handled properly.

So does Capuano (spelling?) get suspended too? Because it’s ridiculous if it’s just Bylsma.

Capuano
This Jack Capuano (Isles’ coach) quote from the Trib article on the game was a little troubling to me as it seems as though he was condoning the players’ behavior on the ice- be it regarding running up the score or even all the extracurricular action:
“As a staff, we prepare our guys, but the players play the game,” Islanders coach Jack Capuano said, adding that he “absolutely (did) not” tell his players to let up late with the score out of reach. “I have no problems with them. They took action the way they saw fit.”

I have absolutely no respect for this guy. And he’ll get what he has coming. He quite clearly saw a ravaged Pens lineup and made it his objective to goon it up.
When we can field a full strength team again, I will be thrilled if Bylsma wants to run up the score. Or any team for that matter, I’d be happy if another team pots 7-8 against them.

am I the only one that was hoping
Bylsma would leave the bench and call him out? ;)
There's an 87% chance this post is sarcasm...
Took action the way they saw fit?
I’m probably the last person to turn and say a team like the Islanders is a bunch of thugs (they’re clearly not, and one game isn’t going to solidify that), but they did not take action in a respectable way. But neither did some Pens for that matter. This whole game was a wash. The Islanders get two points that won’t put them into the playoffs and the Pens miss out on two points when they could use anything they can get right now.
