Around SBN: NFL Players Ready To Welcome Gay Teammate

According to Rob Rossi, Edmonton's asking price for RW Ales Hemsky is "huge", meaning at least a 1st rounder + an NHL player.

The 27-year-old Hemsky is signed until the summer of 2012 at $4.1m cap hit. Would he be worth that price tag, if we want to make a deal? Who would the NHL player be? Shero has shown in the past years that he is not too willing to part with NHL players at the deadline but if he values Hemsky that highly, maybe it would be worth it?

Only if he’s sure Crosby can come back, otherwise, I don’t see the point.

Agreed, but Crosby will be definely back for next season and Hemsky will be signed for it. Something to think about.

I think Hemsky as a player, is worth it with the raw talent he has and how much damage he could do on a line with a player like Sid or Malkin. But the big question that I have with him is the injuries…if we’re paying top dollar to get him, is he going to be able to stay on the ice?

I think there is a point in getting him because the upcoming FA pool for wingers is fairly shallow and if Shero doesn’t make a trade, there’s not too many guys who he’d be able to get that are worthwhile in the summer

The price is probably:
-2011 first round pick
-Despres or Tangradi

To start with. Maybe with Goligoski or one of Letestu/Jeffrey on top as well and possibly another second round pick this year or next.

I don’t think Hemsky’s worth all of that for a team that doesn’t have Malkin and doesn’t know about Crosby. He’s a really dynamic player and I’d love to see him on the Pens, but I think Edmonton is just going to want too much.

From when I went over to Copper & Blue

They said Edmonton doesn’t really want prospects for Hemsky or Penner. They want an actual NHL player. I don’t know who they had in mind exactly (they want Bogosian from Atlanta, won’t happen) but if it was someone like Talbot or Kennedy I could go for it.

It just seems like Edmonton’s expectations might be too high, but I guess we’ll see.

no Malkin, possibly no Crosby
Hemsky is constantly injured
Penner wants to move back to SoCal (girlfriend from that area, too) next time he’s up for UFA (re-join the Ducks?)
and the Oilers asking price is “huge”
= no thanks

Color me not surprised. I’d have a hard time swallowing any deal like this – for once, I’d really prefer we stand pat at the deadline.

Went away to Leafland for a day. It was nice, even though they lost. And I became a Certified Grabbo Lover.

ESPN Insider

Not a member of their pay features, but the title and first line of one of the rumors is saying Washington is seriously interested in Hemsky and that Edmonton is wanting a young d-man to make the deal happen.

Carlson? I’d be suprised if Washington went for that.
Can’t think of anyone else that the Oil would go for — not Alzner; not Orlov
Would need other pieces involved

Yeah, Washington won’t move Carlson.

In fact, they’ve been patient for years, never really pulling the trigger on the big trade. I would expect more of the same.

Hemsky really doesn’t do much for them, unless they were going to do this in conjunction with a big shakeup (like trading Semin for a center) it really doesn’t make sense to me that the Caps would add Hemsky right now.
