Thiessen Returns Home, Earns 7th Shutuout for WBS Penguins

Brad Thiessen earned his league leading 7th shutout tonight in a 4-0 win for the WBS Penguins

After one of the more disappointing performances on the season Tuesday night, the Wilkes-Barre Scranton Penguins put together one of their most impressive performances together tonight in Abbostford.

In a homecoming of sorts for Ryan Craig and Brad Thiessen, the WBS Pens gave Thiessen’s cheering section quite a show.  Thiessen got his league-leading 7th shutout of the season, stopping all 26 shots he faced in a 4-0 win for the Pens.

Still in the driver's seat in the East Division, the win puts the WBS Pens seven points ahead of second place Hershey with three games in hand.

A quick recap after the jump.

The Pens got a balanced offensive attack going in the first 40 minutes and finished their effort with solid defense in the final period.

Geoff Walker got the Penguins on the board just under four minutes in, firing a shot past Leland Irving after a nice feed from Keven Veilleux.

The fourth line got in on the action late in the first period and the hardworking Zach Sill got credit with the goal. His linemates Jesse Boulerice and Nick Petersen got the assists.  Petersen was playing in his first game since February 7th, and didn’t look out of place at all.

The Penguins continued to turn up the heat in the second period adding two more to their lead. Bryan Lerg found a loose puck and beat Irving to make it 3-0.  Then Tim Wallace fed Brett Sterling who made no mistake and fired a highlight-reel goal past Irving to give the Pens a four goal lead.
