Game Photos: Penguins vs Canadiens & Oilers
I thought about titling this post "Sidney Crosby Comeback Photos" just to lure everyone in since, quite understandably, our healing Captain is foremost in our thoughts. But alas, all I have to offer are photos from this past weekend's games against the best (not counting Vancouver, of course) and worst that Canada has to offer. Check them out after the jump.

Things started looking up later that night when we bumped into TK after dinner at Hyde Park. We agreed to let him get his picture taken with the lucky sock. Worked out pretty well for him the next day, I'd say.

Good time to break out the sign to celebrate Pensburgh's birthday...you know... the one that happened back in December. I'm holding it too low or you'd see that it says hi to Frank, Hooks and all the other Pensburgh contributors and readers. It's a really tall sign.

The Pens, no doubt buoyed by the return of the Pensburgh mojo to the arena, killed off the 5-on-3 and went on to take the lead before the end of the period.

Earlier that morning I shared an elevator with Kovy. I had four floors to tell him how great it was that he was back in Pittsburgh, how he made my first ever trip to see the Pens at the Igloo so memorable by scoring that hat trick including the OT game winner against the Devils, how I thought he could be an important piece in a deep playoff run. What I managed to say was "good luck today". He smiled and said "thanks". ***Note to self: Always take the camera with you, even if you're just going down to get a luggage cart.

Coming out for the third, Coach had something up his sleeve. He was looking for someone, anyone to listen to him.

He finally got the attention of a linesman and went on to draw up something pretty impressive on the whiteboard.

Did the equipment guy throw the stick over to the Mrs? That’s awesome.

The stick and some game pucks. It was very cool of him.

Wow. And all this time I thought you needed an adorable small child to get pucks and sticks.
Thanks for the pics =]

That’s funny because I was thinking the same thing. Don’t get me wrong, I love kids and the way the players treat them. Have to build that young fanbase. But I’m not going to complain about something coming our (her) way, especially when it happens to be from my favorite player.

Thanks, PAYD :)
My favourite has to be the one of Hal Gill in warm-ups, where it looks like there’s a giant bottle of ketchup being poured on his head.
i might be an idiot.
I like that one, too. One of those happy accidents. :-)

Of all the things I’ve ever wanted to see happen to Hal Gill, I can’t say “have a giant bottle of ketchup sneak up on him and douse him with its contents” was ever on the list.
But it is now!
i might be an idiot.
...
Is this closer to the normal Hal Gill scenario that you think of?

Great photos! My favorite of the lot is the one of Duper…the guy looks intense for a change!
I caught the PensBurgh sign on TV during Kov’s penalty. Quite happy to see that :)
PensBurgh penalty - Lavender - 2 Minutes for saying, "Woo! Offense," every time Zbynek Michalek touches the puck.
nice
I also had one of the classic Pensburgh strips from last season but it was mostly blocked by the score.

Thrilled you two got Letang’s stick plus all the chance meetings with players. I say it everytime but I am soooo living vicariously through you and your lenses! I can’t pick a fav, I thought they were all great. Thanks again for sharing :)

Yeah, we had some good timing this weekend. I left out that we passed Neal in the parking lot on the way to dinner. He didn’t look too happy after the loss so I let him know how happy we were to have him in Pittsburgh. It seemed to cheer him up a little.
Okay, I better be careful. Starting to stray into Penguins Paparazzi’s territory here.

As always, great pictures – thanks for sharing. I was at the game on Saturday, but my seats are too high up for any pictures. I’m so glad you got the stick!
Did you happen to see Letang on the bench after the hit by Brule – it looked pretty nasty and he looked pretty shaken up. I hope they are cautious with him before he goes back on the ice.
It didn’t look good. I was glad to see him come out for the usual high-five with Fleury after the game.

What terrific pictures! I’ve said this before, but your photos make even horrible games look good—it’s like you can sift out some good moments. I’m glad Kennedy was smart enough to pose with the lucky sock.
Looks like you had an excellent weekend, too—meeting players, 2 games, and coming home with Letang’s stick! Happy for you both.
"This would have been a goal if it went in."--Paul Steigerwald, 2/10/11
We had to try real hard to draw out the positives from Saturday’s game, that’s for sure. One nice thing was the access we had to the Habs bench, at least one end of it.
The close-up shot of Price that I posted is one example. Just before I took that shot he had come over to the bench for the tv timeout. The ice crew came out and, probably not by accident, they have assigned a very attractive young lady to clear the ice right by the visitor bench. Price was admiring her skill with the shovel and I said “don’t get too distracted”. He looked up with the biggest grin on his face.
I also had plenty of opportunities to tell Hal Gill how appreciative we were of his contribution to the ’09 Cup run, though by the end of the game I was pleading with him to just give us a goal already. Shameless, I know, but I was desperate. We had never seen the Pens get shutout in person before this season but now it has happened three times in our last eight games.
