The quotes that stand out to me that I wanted to chat a little bit are...
Concerning the NHL season
The races in both conferences are as tight as they can possibly be because of the salary cap -as coaches and GMs have been instructed to suggest -but the fact is it's because losers in either overtime or the shootout are rewarded with a point, which is as ridiculous as it gets.
Should the NHL go to a different point format, like they do in soccer where you get 3 points for a win, 2 points for an overtime win and 1 point for an overtime loss?
More after the jump
This is a follow up to the 1st quote, but gave me another question to ask.
On the other hand, even while the money keeps rolling into the bank accounts of most teams, the NHL cannot, and should not, be celebrating 2010-11. That's because more than two months have passed since Sidney Crosby played his last game. Sadly, it is becoming more and more evident that we have seen the last of the NHL's best player this season. If that is so, this one is a lost season for the NHL, because it has only itself to blame for his absence.
I'm talking about the laughable -and dangerous -Winter Classic on Jan. 1. That's when Crosby likely suffered the hit to the head that has placed the rest of his season in jeopardy and, perhaps, his career.
Why there and not elsewhere? It's because the Winter Classic forces players into a game under conditions that are rink-lengths away from those they expect in NHL rinks. Everything about the Winter "Classic" is unlike a team's remaining 81 games, starting with the condition of the ice and playing before a crowd two or three times larger than those during the "regular" season.
Do you think the NHL is to blame for Crosby being hurt? Do you think the Winter Classic's environment is too dangerous to play NHL games?
And the last quote
The Pittsburgh Penguins haven't been the same without the league's best player. The NHL hasn't. If Crosby doesn't return for the rest of the season -and thus far it doesn't appear he shall -the Stanley Cup champions should have an asterisk alongside their name.
Do you agree that the winner of this Stanley Cup should have an asterisk by their name because Crosby is/was hurt for a big portion of the season(maybe /shudders the rest of the season).
