Optimism: the early 2000's

I need everyone in the penguins network to remember the 2003-2004 season, (or at least the fans that were following the team 7 years ago).

That's right. I was as sore as any life long hockey player/fan would be after that flophouse of a year. I grew up in michigan during the 90's watching one of the best dynasties in hockey history. However, I was fortunate to see lemieux and jagr together at the joe in 1996. I was a quick converter and after that never routed for the wings, even during there back to back championships.

Anyways, I vividly remember the terrible times that followed. Kaspers goal against the sabres in game 7 and the ensuing series loss to the devils in the eastern conference finals (2001), (definitely shed some tears).  Then the every rotating door of has beens and never was'is until that 'amazing' 03-04 season where we saw a 23-47-8-4 penguins (MAF going 4-14-2), with such notable allstars as rico fata and chris beech.

So please faithfull's, remember those terribly torrid times that we could not bare to watch a full game.  I saw them play the islanders  and only knew 3 or 4 players.  We have a full line of allstars on the sidelines and a full line of minor leaguers playing. And I really started to get this mindset last night as I shouted at the TV and was as harsh a critic as anyone else.

The majority of people have stayed optimistic and I'm with you guys 100 percent. So keep your heads up penguins fans and lets not forget, we did win a stanley cup championship two years ago. Not too shabby for a bunch of blue collard boys.
