Atlantic; Eastern Conference Outlook; Remaining Schedule Breakdown

So it was brought up in a comment and then I divulged a little into the Penguins and Flyers remaining schedule and how things could shake out.  This post goes more in depth with that as well as look at Montreal, Washington and the Lightning remaining schedules.

Pittsburgh Penguins (4th seed) - 84 pts - 67 gp - 15 gr
8 @ home
7 @ road
2 vs Flyers
4 vs other playoff (currently seeded 8 or higher) teams
4 vs teams on the bubble (9-12 seed)

Outlook: Pens are but a sure bet to make the playoffs.  Although nothing is guranteed they have a large enough cushion that things should be alright.  They appear to be in a position to finish either 4th, 5th or even 1st in the East.  If they can handle both of their games against the Flyers there is no reason why they shouldn't have a shot at 1st place.

More to follow after the jump.

Philadelphia Flyers (1st seed) - 86pts - 65gp - 17gr
8 @ home
9 @ road
2 vs Pens
4 vs other playoff teams
6 vs teams on the bubble

Outlook: Its likely they hold onto the top seed in the East, but the Pens aren't far behind at all.  A mere 2pts in fact.  While the Flyers have 2 games at hand on us, they continue to struggle.  As I write this they are down 4-0 to the Rangers in the 3rd, so Im chalking that up as a loss now.  If they continue to flounder down the stretch and the Pens keep finding a way to get points they may be over taken.

Tampa Bay Lightning (3rd seed) - 81pts - 65gp - 17 gr
8 @ home
9 @ road
1 vs Pens
7 vs other playoff teams
3 vs teams on the bubble

Outlook: Its only a 1pt lead on Washington, and its likely the loser of this divison takes the 4 or 5 seed and plays us in the first round.  They have a tough schedule ahead.  7 against playoff teams as well as 1 vs us makes 8.  and as always teams fighting to get into the playoffs will be out for blood.  it looks to me like the lightning are the team to fall from the divison lead down the road.

Washington Capitals (5th seed) - 80pts - 65gp - 17gr
7 @ home
10 @ road
9 vs other playoff teams
3 vs teams on the bubble

Outlook: Very tough march.  it won't be easy but they've been down the road before.  they know playoff hockey and they're a good team for a reason.  possibly even a tougher schedule than the lightning, i like the caps to take the divison.  chance they slip up is not uncommon but i think theyll get the job done and take the 3rd seed.

Montreal Canadiens (6th seed) - 79pts - 66gp - 16gr
7 @ home
9 @ road
1 vs Pens
9 vs other playoff teams
4 vs bubble teams

Outlook: A slight chance they move up in the standings only being 1pt out of the 5th spot which means we could see them in round 1.  Again the schedule isnt pretty but the Habs have held their own this year.  with a total of 14 of the remaining 16 against playoff worthy teams per say, it will be a tough bet to get some wins, but 6-3-1 in the last 10 and winning 4 straight, theyre hot.  so watch out.
