I know that it is borderline sinful to suggest this but I am of the opinion that the Pens need to make a adjustment to a lineup that just posted a playoff shutout, why that is following the jump.
We all know that this time of the year is when hockey takes on a more chess like vibe. Not only must one consider what you are doing, you need to anticipate what your opponent is going to do. I know the Pens won a 3-0 game but that 3-0 score is a bit misleading.
Kovy's goal was right place, right time. If that puck got out of the Lightning zone that means the Pens had at least 3 guys trapped, one of whom (Kovy) had no chance to get back on the play. That could have easily been a goal for the Bolts via an odd man break.
Asham's goal is that type a goal you see as frequently as a blue moon. Seriously, how often does a 4th liner go on a near coast to coast run and score on a wrap-around that he was only able to score on because of a fortunate bounce?
Empty net goals don't really count, so yeah.
We know the Bolts are going to come out and try to score an ugly goal or several. That means lots of shots with screans in hopes of a tip, rebound, or it getting through because MAF didn't see it. Niskanen is a SERIOUS liability when it comes to front of the net presence. I know he plays a role on the 2nd PP, (that sucks) but since we know what is coming, shouldn't we act proactively to try and stop what is coming? Engelland has got to get a jersey tonight, doesn't he?
Also that PP is dreadful, I think Comrie needs to get a jersey sometime, maybe not tonight, but sometime during this series to try and get the PP going. He is a playmaker and without Sid and Geno, and Comrie is certainly not of that calaber, the Pens need a decision maker. Thoughts?
