Penguins Name Bill Guerin Player Development Coach
"The Pittsburgh Penguins have hired former player and Stanley Cup champion Bill Guerin as player development coach, it was announced today by Executive Vice President and General Manager Ray Shero."
Great move IMO, glad to see Guerin back with the Penguins organization.

Billy G was already doing this in Wilkes-Barre down the stretch and during the AHL Playoffs. I’m glad he’s been hired to do it full time. He spent a lot of time at the practices I saw him at with Keven Veilleux. I really like Veilleux and can’t wait to see him in camp this year.

Just remembered reading this...
Justin Bourne wrote a column last year about how coaches cover for players when they go out.
Check out this small excerpt:
The whole thing made me wonder how often NHL teams have to bury off-ice issues. I know from playing the lower rungs of pro hockey that our coach had no problem making stuff disappear, but it can’t be that easy in the NHL. Maybe guys are older and more mature and less likely to get in trouble? Maybe the stakes are too high to push the envelope in the NHL?
If Bill Guerin’s Mandatory Bar Night the night before my first exhibition game with the Islanders was any indication, I doubt that’s the case.
The prospects may arrive as boys, but Guerin will make sure they leave as men! Men who may need liver transplants, but men nonetheless!

That Bourne piece was actually one of the first ones I thought of, Lilo.
Work hard, play hard. I’m sure that even though Guerin is easy going and enjoys having a good time that he won’t slack on the first part of that equation (the work). But yeah, never a dull moment, that’s for sure.
The energy he brings, the experience should be boons for young kids looking to make their NHL dreams come true. What better way than to learn from a 400+ goal scorer with 2 rings on his resume to help improve your game and get to the next level?

I do seriously think he’ll be an asset and a great mentor—he leaves a lasting impression on younger players, including Bourne. He loves hockey and loves the Penguins organization. But I simply couldn’t resist posting that.

Breaking news….kind of.
Steve Wagner is gonzo to Adler Mannheim of the DEL. Somewhere Tony A is weeping in a dark, desolate corner.
Best news since Boston tied the series!
Guerin is in the Penguins franchise still and has a job where his personality and work ethic will do nothing but help this Pens team now and in the future. And a CFA’s signing today just tops it all off. I have to have a beer for this one!
