Around SBN: Win or Lose, Boston Celtics' New Big 3 Era A Success

I think we all knew it from sight, but I broke things down a little further in a piece over at SB Nation Pittsburgh. When you look at the video evidence, NHL rule book and Brad Marchand's recent suspension-worthy low bridge, I don't think there's really any room for debate.

Couple of Maroons

They also conveniently overlook the fact if he truly was trying to “low bridge” Lecavalier, after he ducked, he would have planted his feet near/against the boards to shift his weight and momentum towards the center of the ice- otherwise known as ‘engaging in a hit.’

Instead, Malkin ducked, lost his balance and fell forward- otherwise known as ‘avoiding a hit.’

Great write up Stephen. I like how you compared the hit to the Marchand/Salo hit. There will be plenty of people out there who still disagree, but I really don’t see how other than just being haters. Malkin did nothing dangerous and just got out of the way. I don’t even know how Lecavalier even thinks Malkin was going for his knees.

Thanks.

It kind of boggles my mind that there’s really some sort of debate on this, you know? It’s just so cut and dry.

by Stephen Catanese on Jan 17, 2012 3:43 PM EST up reply actions

Yes, it’s pretty dry – except for Lecavalier’s tears.

I love how its

Malkin gave him a cheap shot, even though Vinny followed him around the ice looking for trouble

Good job Stephen. Good job Malkin.

If you put any other player from any other team in Malkin’s shoes, and then replaced Lecavalier with any Penguin, I would still say it looked like the player targeted for the hit was just trying to avoid it. I didn’t think anything of it when it happened and frankly was a bit surprised to see how much was being said about it after the game.

isn’t this the kind of reaction the NHL wants it’s star players to have? By instinctively ducking to protect his head, Malkin might have saved himself a concussion and another black eye for the league….aside from that, ya, Mike Milbury calling Malkin dirty? Oh, that’s rich….

Milbury is still pissed about Ulf’s hit on Neely and getting caught beating up on youth hockey players…the dude is a complete idiot. NBC has assembled, by far, the largest group of douche bag commentators in the history of sports.
