Pens assign Cal O'Reilly to Wilkes-Barre

(PS - You know it's bad when SB Nation doesn't even have a stock photo for you as a Penguin..)

Another month, another new team for Cal O'Reilly? Seems like it.

The Pittsburgh Penguins have re-assigned forward Cal O’Reilly to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League, it was announced by executive vice president and general manager Ray Shero.

O’Reilly, 25, has appeared in six games with Pittsburgh since being claimed off re-entry waivers from Phoenix on Feb. 1, tallying one assist. In 33 NHL games this season with Pittsburgh, Phoenix and the Nashville Predators, O’Reilly has collected seven points (2G-5A).

O'Reilly's been on quite the waiver journey this season and he did get some decent minutes and linemates in Pittsburgh to make an impact. Unfortunately for him, he failed to distinguish himself and didn't put up many points, recording the one assist in his games with the Pens. Once Jordan Staal and Arron Asham returned, O'Reilly found himself to be a healthy scratch and pretty much buried on the depth chart. With no other injuries really looming (and Tyler Kennedy and maybe Sidney Crosby on the comeback trail) it seemed just a matter of time before the Pens placed O'Reilly back on his home away from home- waivers.

If no one claims O'Reilly he'll go to Wilkes-Barre, so we'll see if any other NHL teams want to offer him a shot.

UPDATE: Or as Shelly Anderson from the PG points out:

O'Reilly dets: He didn't need waivers b/c didn't hit 10games/30 days with but would need re-entry waivers to be recalled from AHL.
