The Pittsburgh Penguins have re-signed forward Joe Vitale to a two-year contract extension, it was announced today by executive vice president and general manager Ray Shero.
The deal begins with the 2012-13 season and runs through the 2013-14 campaign, and has an average annual value of $550,000.
Vitale, 26, has emerged as one of the Penguins’ most versatile performers during his first full NHL campaign. In 44 games this year, Vitale has three goals, seven assists and 10 points.
In addition to seeing action on the NHL’s fourth-ranked penalty killing unit, Vitale leads the team with a 55.9-percent success rate on faceoffs and places fourth among forwards with 24 blocked shots.

Yeah, nice deal for him.
Of course, Mark Letestu also got a two year contract from the Pens last year and look at him now..

Yeah, that much he does have a better positioned niche. Bring energy, speed, aggressiveness, faceoffs, PK, block shots, etc. Can’t beat the price either.

Sounds good to me
Brings value to the team at a low cost. Always a good deal.
The glare of the spotlight is harsh, and the pressure that success breeds immense. We revere our heroes, but expect much. And criticism can come as easily as praise.
Perspectives become reality.

Quite a bit cheaper than the $2.25M/yr Talbot is getting:)

My thought exactly.
He does everything as well as or better (faceoffs, energy, hits, speed, blocks shots, aggressiveness) except for scoring (which is minimal in any event) and timely agitation (which he can learn).

More on O' Reilly
Maybe I’m reading between the lines a bit, but feel Shero likes what he has in O’ Reilly and better sets Shero for trading at the deadline. I would hope Coach DB and Shero would bring in muscle for today’s game with the B’s. It was the Colosseum vs the B’s in Pgh. The Pens took a beating that they are still suffering from. As for Pensburgh this year, I have been an observer up to this point after a rough year last year with some “contributors” to this blog. People who I felt did not deserve their opinions. Senseless jibberish and nitwit comments proving their actual lack of hockey knowledge, some had no right to dish Caps fans. I feel the contributors during the games this year are more focused on the game and not cluttering the blog with garbage of what one’s eating, studying, etc. during the game. This year there is actually a flow to the comments without so many diversions. Keep up the good work.
